About the role
This is a hybrid role with the first three months in the office.
Eversource is looking for a Senior Safety Advisor to support the Facilities, Warehousing and Metering organizations. Reporting location can either be in Berlin, CT or Nashua, NH. In this role, you will work on the administration, development and improvement of the occupational safety and health programs for the organizations you would support. You will serve as both a technical and internal management partner in the prevention of injuries and illnesses, ensuring regulatory compliance and incorporating best practices into ES’s safety management system. You will also be responsible for program development, management and facilitation to assure consistent and effective application throughout the enterprise. You will assist Safety management in the execution of safety programs in all business environments.

Essential Functions:
- Maintains a close working relationship with operating personnel and advises managers and supervisors in all aspects of occupational safety.
- Trains, coaches and performs safety observations on a diverse, multi-discipline workforce to assure high safety standards. Observes behaviors and conditions within the work environment on a frequent basis and coaches employees regarding the value of working safely. Provides feedback on these activities to management and employees.
- Employs the incident analysis process when investigating all incidents and ensures adherence to all federal and state regulations. Follows up on proposed improvement plans after each incident.
- Assists management in developing improvement plans to prevent recurrence.
- Develops and delivers safety training, as wells as partners with the Training Department to ensure required and recommended safety training is completed and effective.
- Advises management in problem solving and decision making to eliminate hazards in the workplace and participates in recurring safety meetings.
- Develops incident prevention and regulatory compliance programs in order to reduce injuries and incidents and protect Company assets.
- Inspects field work locations and Company properties to ensure a safe work environment to eliminate causal factors of injuries and illnesses.
- Develops relationships with customers from every level within the organization.
- Develops, revises and implements work practices and programs that enhance employee performance. Provides input and conducts projects to develop and update procedures and safety rules as required.
- Provides support during emergencies, such as mutual aid contractor on-boarding and field safety support.
- Develops strategic and programmatic solutions to ensure compliance and incorporate best practices applicable to occupational safety and health programs, policies, rules and regulations.
- Provides program oversight and facilitation to field operations, field safety advisors and safety vendors.
- Develops, implements and monitors / assesses program(s) effectiveness.
- Provides feedback to Safety Managers, ES operations management on programmatic solutions to safety compliance and performance concerns.
- Facilitates management of causal identification for program needs assessments and future program(s) developments.
- Supports Safety Managers providing statistical analysis and data relevant to safety and health programs and acts on their behalf, as assigned.
- Identifies and coordinates the execution of the necessary resources to successfully implement safety and health programs.
- Provides storm restoration and emergency assignments up to and including the safety branch director of the ICS system and emergency response plan.
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Technical Knowledge/Skills:
- Requires a thorough understanding of the Company’s safety rules
- Requires knowledge of Eversource Operation’s practices and procedures
- Knowledge of construction site safety is required
- Requires specific knowledge of local and federal regulations (OSHA and DOT) safety laws, and State Departments of Public Safety requirements as they pertain to electric, gas and water utility industries
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations as well as sound safety management principles and practices.
- Knowledge of Distribution operations and associated electrical, gas systems, construction practices and renewable energy practices is highly desired.
- Experience with Facilities, Warehousing and Metering operations desirable.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and strong organizational skills;
- Strong project leadership skills;
- Willingness to work independently as well as with teams;
- Willingness to build rapport/credibility with both management and the skilled craft workforce
