Test Lab Tech I

Position Description:

 

The position will assist Product Development Engineering, Manufacturing, other Wabash business units, and Wabash Customers with trailer and components prototyping, testing, and performance evaluations.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Below are examples of the type of duties you could be responsible for:

• Be competent at maintaining a clean and safe workplace environment.
• Build prototypes of trailer components and assemblies by metal or other materials fabrication, utilizing various assembly methods.
• Set up physical tests following standard test procedures. Conduct tests. Collect experimental data. Write test reports.
• Design new tests, summarize your ideas in writing, design and build new gages, tools, testing instruments, jigs, fixtures, etc.
• Fabricate test specimens utilizing welding, mechanical assembly, bonding, etc.
• Work closely with Product Development Engineering in carrying out trailer repairs and modifications.
• Order shop sensors, tools, lab equipment, and supplies.
• Conduct Workplace Organization activities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Basic industrial automation knowledge
• Ability to understand and follow standard test procedures, ability to set up a physical test, conduct the test, collect experimental data.
• Write technical documents.
• Knowledge of gages, metrology, practical skills of measuring, ability to perform gage and tool calibrations.
• Knowledge of and practical experience in operating electric-power tools and air-pressure power tools, welding technology, metal fabrication, adhesives and bonding technology, plastics, and composite materials
• Knowledge of and practical experience in mechanical assembly, fixtures, jigging and equipment prototyping
• Ability to operate heavy shop machinery e.g., a fork truck, hoist, crane, etc.
• Basic trailer knowledge.
• Basic math knowledge.
• Blueprint reading knowledge.
• MS Office
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
• Basic reading /writing/ & verbal skills

Knowledge, Training, Skills and/or Experience:

• Ability to follow Standard Work Instructions (SWI’s), Test Lab Procedures, and Test Standards
• Lab electronics and electro-mechanic systems knowledge preferred
• General understanding of sensor technology
• Data reporting ability
• Hydraulic power technology, Hydraulic power control knowledge and/or experience preferred
