Job Description:
METCOR/LSI is seeking a General Accounting Specialist to support the organization in our Washington, D.C. office. The General Accounting Specialist is a mid-level role within the Accounting Department. The role is structured in an autonomous support capacity, with the expectation of good judgment, problem solving, resourcefulness, and attention to detail. This role may also have projects or assignments that are fully autonomous.
This role is structured in a self-directed support capacity, with the expectation of diligence, problem-solving, resourcefulness, excellent written and verbal communication, and orientation for details and organization. This role's main interactions are internal to the corporation with the capability to perform cross- functionally with all departments, but primarily with other functional groups within the Administration Department. This position is responsible for supporting various contractual, financial, and bookkeeping responsibilities that will ensure compliance with General Acceptable Accounting Practices [GAAP], industry best practices, and substantial improvement of the Accounting Department. This position is full time Monday - Friday in office with the potential to a hybrid schedule after 6 months of employment.

What You'll Be Doing:
- Manage all aspects of accounts receivable, including invoicing, credit control, and collections.
- Ensure timely posting of cash receipts and monitor customer payment trends.
- Reconcile customer accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Prepare monthly aging reports and follow up on overdue payments.
- Perform daily bookkeeping tasks, including bank reconciliations, maintaining accounting records, and filing necessary documentation.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes by ensuring all accounts are balanced and accurate.
- Maintain accurate financial records, including general ledger entries, reconciliations, and journal entries.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
- Other duties as assigned
What Required Experience, Skills, and Education You'll Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Experience may be substituted for education
- 6-8 years of work experience, with a minimum of 4 years in an aligned discipline (e.g., accounting, finance, bookkeeping, etc.)āÆ
- Working experience within a Government Contracting company highly preferred
- Computer proficiency in MS Office Applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, SharePoint, Visio), internet
- Working knowledge of Deltek CostPoint or other accounting software
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and project coordination skillsāÆ
- Expanding knowledge and growth in problem solving, critical thinking and data analysis
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Compensation
- $63,000-$73,000 annually
