The Faculty of Health Sciences is the largest health sciences faculty in Australia, consisting of seven disciplines, five research themes (plus 3 cross-cutting themes), and four research centres. The Research Officer will support the delivery of a competitively funded (MRFF) cardiovascular health research project in NSW Aboriginal communities the EASI study (Early Atrial fibrillation Screening for Indigenous people). This study aims to establish an effective and culturally safe AF screening and follow-up pathway for Indigenous Australians that can be scaled nationally using m-health. The research team is cross institutional (with Macquarie University), has an established track record working with Indigenous communities, includes Indigenous and non-Indigenous researchers, and partners with 4 Aboriginal Medical Services to deliver this study.
This role will support the Project Chief Investigator, Dr Josephine Gwynn and the research team.
Dr Josephine Gwynn is a Senior Lecturer in the Sydney School of Health Sciences (occupational therapy). Dr Gwynn has 30 years’ experience in the University sector, and in research, education, and community health with Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities’ Gwynn is the Program Director for the Bachelor of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy, a member of the Faculty Board for the Faculty of Medicine and Health and co-leads the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health node at the Charles Perkins Centre.
We are seeking a well-skilled and qualified Research Assistant to provide technical knowledge and assistance to Dr Gwynn and the research team of the EASI study. The position will support the study and will include activities such as contributing to: conducting literature reviews, ethics applications, qualitative data collection, database management, data analysis and contributing to writing for publications and reports.
This includes actively contributing to research activities, research protocols, undertaking core aspects of research work, maintain stakeholder relationships, collating and recording research data and contributing to analyses, reporting and publication of research data.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
Provide project management for research programs, including project planning, tracking, implementing and reporting
Contribute to data analysis, preparing reports and presentations
develop suitable research protocols in collaboration with the Chief Investigator
contributes to and coordinates the research and administration activities of the study, and provides support in communication with relevant institutions
liaises with affiliated researchers/collaborators regarding study progress and outcomes, and ensure appropriate ethics and all regulatory guidelines and industry standards are met.
About you:
An awarded or near completed Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (health, Public health, Indigenous health,)
demonstrated experience or knowledge in in qualitative research methodologies
demonstrated experience or knowledge in contributing to: literature reviews, ethics applications, qualitative data collection, database management, data analysis and writing for publications and reports
outstanding interpersonal and communication skills in a team environment
have a current NSW working with children check
