Job Description

Our client, a leading US retailer, is seeking a senior consultant to play an advisory role in the risk decision science team. The team is responsible for assessing and developing strategies to reduce risk within the retailer’s marketplace of third-party sellers. The senior consultant will work directly with the team leader and executive stakeholders to devise analytical solutions, recommend policy approaches, and clearly articulate business impacts. This role will bridge the gap between constituents focused on business performance and will represent a risk management point of view. They will bring expertise and thought leadership to the decision science team as well as the broader organization.

Team Mission Detail:

Risk leader will work with an existing team of analytics practitioners. The team mission is to enable growth of the commerce platform by effectively managing risks that can arise from marketplace sellers. The team will be responsible for creating the overall infrastructure to support risk management. This is a wide-ranging remit in the long term that will focus on these areas:

1. Portfolio Risk Assessment: How is the risk profile of the current business changing? Which sellers or market participants require further scrutiny? Are their outliers/anomalies with unexplainable behavior? Which activities or product characteristics are creating the greatest risk exposure? How are outsorts and case management actions managed, and what rules are appropriate?
2. Seller Onboarding: How are new sellers vetted at point of engagement and monitored during early tenure in Marketplace? What data is captured and validated? What are the toll gates or limits needed throughout this process?
3. Financial Risks & Money Movement: How are financial flows monitored and governed within the Marketplace? Are payment settlement signals properly tracked to transactions? Are appropriate thresholds or stops in place for non-payment, rejects or insufficient funds? Do parties have appropriate credentials, screening, data capture compliance and other controls, e.g. OFAC and KYC/KYB.

Qualifications

• This is a senior role – Director to VP level, depending on depth of experience. Minimum of 10 years of professional experience. Candidate must come from retail background
• Role will work directly with client team and team lead and will advise Blend and client resources
• Duration is anticipated to be six months initially with the possibility of extension beyond January 2025
• Role is remote: US or Canada. Hours are expected to align with US Central time. Minimal travel is expected
• Role is expected to be full time, but we would consider partial time or flexible schedules

Additional Information
