Job Title: Fish Buy Technician Department: Fisheries
Reports To: Director Hours: 40 Hrs/Wk – Full Time

Position Summary:
Helping the Fish Buy Program Manager with all aspects of the job.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Assists in buying of fish and shellfish from Tribal members and other sources.
2. Ensures all transactions are documented to procurement policies.
3. Verify that Tribal Member fisherman have proper identification. (i.e. fish cards and licenses) when selling their catch.
4. Grade fish and shellfish based on established standards and assist in processing, cleaning, sorting, and packaging
5. Ensure safe handling of products during transportation to maintain quality and safety.
6. Maintain accurate records of purchases, including paperwork, invoices, and fish tickets.
7. Assist in preparing and submitting documentation for regulatory compliance and internal reporting.
8. Assist in setting up and maintaining Fish and Shellfish Buying Stations.
9. Ensure that buying stations are clean, organized, and fully operational.
10. Report any equipment malfunctions or issues to the Fish/Shellfish Buying Program Manager.
11. Follow safety and hygiene protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
12. Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations in handling and processing products.
13. Support the Fish/Shellfish Buy Program Manager and other staff with daily operations and special projects.
14. Collaborate with other team members to address any operational issues and streamline processes.
15. Assist with additional departmental tasks as required.
16. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and three years related experience and/or training are required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated understanding of the fish and shellfish industries and experience with product marketing.
Knowledge of procurement, record keeping, and asset management.
The Fish/Shellfish Buy Technician role requires a strong understanding of procurement processes, attention to detail, and adherence to safety and compliance standards. This position is essential for ensuring the efficient management of fish and shellfish purchases, transportation, and departmental support.
Language Skills
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Strong written and communication skills.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to keep track of the fish tickets, keeping track of the number of fish, and keeping accurate weights.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Licenses or Certificates
Must have and keep a current Fish Buying License from NWIFC/ Puyallup Tribe.
Must have Valid State Driver’s License and proof of insurance.
Must pass a criminal background check.
