The Intensive Care Unit at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital (VWCH), also known as VWCH ICU is located on the first floor at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital.  This is a 12 bed unit and the typical Nurse to patient ratio is 1:2.

The environment on our unit is team-oriented, educational-focused, and upbeat.

We care for critically ill adult patients 18 years and older who are being treated for cardiovascular conditions, acute respiratory failure, Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), sepsis, drug overdose, gastrointestinal bleeds, Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), hypertensive crisis, acute/chronic renal failure, and liver failure.  Our patients are unique because of the diverse diagnosis we provide care for.

One of the perks of working on our unit is the teamwork and family-like feel we have built together. We work hard to provide exceptional care to our patients. We also provide continuous training for our staff to ensure our patients receive the exceptional care they deserve.

Our nurses are successful because they have critical thinking skills, a strong desire to learn, and a robust set of skills for any diagnosis that we may treat.

We orient new nurses to our unit by providing a 12-week orientation with a dedicated preceptor.
