Program Manager – Behavioral Health – Outpatient Psychiatry Evaluation & Navigation (OPEN)  

We are seeking a licensed clinical social worker to help build and lead OPEN, an exciting new cross-campus ambulatory psychiatry access hub serving the Weill Cornell sphere of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, including campuses in Manhattan, Westchester, and Brooklyn. OPEN will serve as a centralized point of entry for high-quality mental health evaluations to assist adult patients in finding the right mental health care at the right time and navigating the complex ambulatory psychiatry care landscape. This hub will unite existing triage/access staff across campuses to centralize/streamline access. OPEN will prioritize referrals within WCM/NYP, provide transparency to available services/treatment within our system, make rapid and appropriate recommendations for services outside our system, while supporting the larger Outpatient mission to provide tertiary care to the most acute patients. 

The Program Manager carries out the clinical oversight/supervision, coordination, implementation and administrative duties for OPEN. The ideal candidate is innovative, mission-driven, and collaborative, with particular strengths and a proven track record in clinical diagnosis for mental health concerns, management of teams, customer service, and program development. In conjunction with the Director and the Chief of Access & Innovation, develops and implements a transparent and efficient delivery system for patients seeking access to psychiatric services. Below is a specific description of responsibilities: 

  • Leads a team of clinicians and triage staff both clinically and administratively to ensure high-quality evaluations and triage services and prompt and appropriate patient communication through a customer service lens
  • Leads daily clinical triage and disposition meetings with support from psychiatry and other OPEN clinical staff
  • Supervises and coordinates overall operations of OPEN, including developing and implementing an organized system for tracking and managing referrals, coordinating clinicians’ schedules in adherence to hospital standards, and compliance with regulatory agencies
  • Manages the program’s intake process, including screening of potential patients for clinical appropriateness, coordination with financial clearance teams, and communication with patients, families, and referral sources 
  • Implements relevant EHR modifications and additional technologies, including emerging AI-powered software, to enhance quality and efficiencies with evaluation processes
  • Coordinates with multicampus ambulatory programs to educate clinicians and staff regarding relevant internal and external clinical programs and workflow to facilitate appropriate and timely disposition
  • Helps to develop and maintain a formulary of high-quality, insurance-accepting community and private sector referral partners, and maintains excellent relationships and communication with these to help facilitate patient flow and access
  • Establishes strong relationships with NYP/Weill Cornell Departments as well as other internal and external colleagues
  • Participates in hospital-wide projects related to patient care and services delivered to ensure quality outcomes
  • Innovates new interdisciplinary programs as needs are identified

This is a full-time day shift position at NewYork Presbyterian Weill Cornell with opportunities for hybrid work and occasional travel to NewYork Presbyterian Westchester Behavioral Health and NewYork Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist. 

Preferred Criteria: 

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker 
  • Strong background in program development and workflow management 
  • Experience supervising clinicians and administrative team members 

Required Criteria: 

  • Licensed Master Social Worker 
  • Experience and strong background in ment
