The Senior Director of the Catholic Community Foundation (CCF) provides strategic, operational, and relational leadership to grow the impact and reach of the Foundation. This role supports the mission of the Archdiocese of Baltimore by expanding endowment and legacy giving to ensure long-term sustainability for parishes, schools, and ministries. The Senior Director is responsible for growing the number of funds and assets under management, increasing donor engagement, ensuring operational excellence, and translating financial data into mission-aligned stories of impact. The role also includes supervising an Administrative Associate and collaborating with colleagues across the Archdiocese to promote the Foundation's mission.
Essential Functions:
Strategic Leadership & Growth
- Partner with the Executive Director to develop and implement a strategic plan for fund growth, outreach, and operational excellence.
- Expand the number and variety of endowed and restricted funds through targeted cultivation of new donors and institutional partners.
- Develop and lead marketing and outreach strategies to raise visibility among prospective donors, financial advisors, parishes, and Catholic institutions.
- Collaborate with parish, school, and ministry leaders to identify strategic funding needs and craft opportunities for long-term support through the Foundation.
Board Engagement
- Serve as primary staff liaison to the Foundation Board and its committees.
- Facilitate board engagement by preparing agendas, presenting updates, and tracking strategic progress.
- Collaborate with board members to advance fundraising, stewardship, and governance initiatives.
Donor & Beneficiary Relations
- Serve as lead relationship manager for major donors, fund holders, and beneficiary recipients.
- Conduct one-on-one meetings with current and prospective donors to build relationships, explore new fund opportunities, and share the impact of giving.
- Ensure excellent customer service and timely communication to donors regarding fund performance, distributions, and impact.
Fund & Agreement Management
- Oversee the creation, documentation, and legal execution of fund agreements, ensuring clarity of donor intent and alignment with Archdiocesan priorities.
- Work closely with Advancement, Fiscal Management, and Legal Services to ensure full compliance and accuracy in fund establishment and administration.
Foundation Operations
- Supervise the Administrative Associate to ensure the efficient day-to-day functioning of the Foundation.
- Manage the Foundation budget and oversee processes related to fund statements, disbursements, and internal reporting.
- Maintain strong working relationships with the Common Fund, Fiscal Management, and other internal stakeholders to ensure financial transparency and accuracy.
- Ensure all Foundation operations comply with applicable laws, ethical standards, and Catholic teaching.
Stewardship & Communications
- Lead the development and execution of donor stewardship strategies, including newsletters, donor events, annual reports, and digital communications.
- Serve as project manager for Foundation-related events and campaigns, working in collaboration with advancement, design, and communication teams.
- Share compelling stories of impact and financial updates that connect donors to the mission they are supporting.
- Promote planned giving opportunities and serve as a resource for legacy donors and their advisors in structuring bequests, charitable trusts, and other planned gifts.
Impact Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze financial and programmatic data from funds and grantees to assess performance and mission alignment.
- Create customized reports, dashboards, and storytelling tools to communicate outcomes and demonstrate how fund activity supports Catholic ministries.
- Ensure that all distributions and grantee activities align with Catholic social teaching and the priorities of the Archdiocese.
- Use insights from data to refine strategy, engage donors, and strengthen messaging around the Foundation's work.
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or certification in philanthropy, nonprofit management, or finance preferred.
- Minimum seven (7) years of experience in advancement, foundation leadership, or donor relations, with supervisory experience.
- Experience working in a faith-based or Catholic organization is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of endowments planned giving, donor-advised funds, and Catholic philanthropy.
