About the role

Data Steward

Job Description

You’re not the person who will settle for just any role. Neither are we. Because we’re out to create Better Care for a Better World, and that takes a certain kind of person and teams who care about making a difference. Here, you’ll bring your professional expertise, talent, and drive to building and managing our portfolio of iconic, ground-breaking brands. In this role, you’ll help us deliver better care for billions of people around the world. It starts with YOU.

Data is the fuel that powers Kimberly Clark! It explains our past and our present and helps guide where we should go in the future. The CPG landscape is constantly changing, and it’s more and more important each day that we stay close with data to ensure agility – the Data Steward plays a key role in this process! The Data Steward empowers the business to understand and use data sources optimally through being the expert in the data. The Data Steward understands the “why” behind the data – who is using the data, why are they using it, and how might they benefit from using it? Through close collaboration, the Data Steward is uniquely positioned to drive business success through development of a business glossary, use case and adoption tracking, creation of data quality rules, training, and participation in governance activities. This role will support users of the data itself, the products that use the data, as well as strategic application of the data.

This role will interact with anyone who uses the data sources directly (e.g. Sales, Category Management, Insights & Analytics, Supply Chain, Marketing, Brand Teams, Leadership, etc.), the Product teams whose tools and reports leverage the data, and anyone involved in current governance and prioritization processes (e.g. IT, Strategy, and Procurement). The Data Steward will be asked to provide input around the data itself – how to use or not use it, how much it is being used, what it is being used for, if the usage is valuable, etc.

In this role, you will:

  • Be a subject matter expert for their designated data sources, including what the data means, who uses it, how much it is used, and for which use cases

  • Collaborate with key data users to develop business logic for the IT team to implement in their systems for automated ongoing monitoring to proactively catch data quality issues before they impact downstream processes

  • Advise and develops materials to inform stakeholders of self-service data availability

  • Understand and advise how to pull data from the relevant databases and data platforms

  • Provide written and verbal guidance to the Analytics Product Manager and to Data Scientists to support their use of data

  • Own and maintain field-level explanations for data sources, including how each data field can be used to address business questions

  • Partner with the Product Manager, Capabilities Team, and others to drive adoption of data sources across relevant business areas

  • Understand the scope of contracted data & services including authorized usage; supports renewal & RFP discussions

  • Communicate data updates & changes from data vendors out to organization
