About the role
Description
In collaboration with the Finance Director and Executive Team, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting principles and regulations. This role will involve managing financial statements, preparing reports, and supporting strategic financial planning. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
- Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely and accurate processing of transactions.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports, providing insights and recommendations to management.
- Assist in the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures.
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes, including variance analysis and financial modeling.
- Coordinate with external auditors during audits and ensure compliance with audit requirements.
- Monitor cash flow and manage banking relationships.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations and filings.
- Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff.
- Collaborate with the Finance Director to ensure overall financial health of the organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s or CPA preferred)
- Minimum [5+] years of accounting experience, preferably in a senior or lead role
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
- Proficient in accounting software (Sage Intacct preferred)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with financial audits and tax filings preferred
- Knowledge of tax regulations and compliance.
