The Role: As a member of the GM Asset Management (GMAM) investment team, you will support oversight of multi-billion-dollar private equity and real estate portfolios of various General Motors pension plans.  The role includes assisting in monitoring and day to day management of existing investments and analysis of new investments.  Successful candidate will collaborate with GMAM team members and external vendors and managers to support investment management functions such as manager selection and oversight, investment underwriting (including fund investments, direct investments and co-investments)), portfolio analysis and performance reporting, asset pricing and valuation oversight, cash flow forecasting and expense analysis.  The candidate is expected to operate effectively in a team environment, be an effective communicator, display a high level of competence in Excel, with strong attention to detail, and possess natural curiosity and drive for results.

What You'll Do:

  • Support senior investment professionals in all aspects of the external investment manager selection and oversight process, including computing and analyzing investment return metrics, participating in manager oversight meetings and diligence for new managers, facilitating the review and completion of legal documentation, including fund and separate account agreements/amendments and subscription agreements.

  • Support analysis and documentation of investment decisions (for discretionary and non-discretionary separate accounts, commingled fund investments and co-investments) in accordance with internal policies and procedures.

  • Lead critical internal control processes, including review of manager fair values, verification of investment fees and expenses and validation/analysis of total and relative performance of the portfolios.

  • Assist with reports/presentations to GMAM leadership on a wide range of topics, including preparing materials for Investment Management Committee strategy reviews and investment decision recommendations and memoranda.
     

  • Recommend and lead projects to improve and simplify processes and import best practices related to operational support of the investment unit by working cross functionally and with external vendors. 

  • Assist with implementing quality control measures, audits, and peer benchmarking.

  • Address ad-hoc requests related to real estate and private equity portfolio investments or investment manager relationships.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • 4+ years of experience in private equity or real estate investment management, asset owner (pension fund, endowment or foundation, etc.) corporate treasury, investment banking or consulting

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, or another quantitative field or equivalent experience

  • Demonstrated quantitative / analytical skills

  • Working knowledge of private investments structuring for institutional clients

  • Strong knowledge of alternative asset class fundamentals including asset valuation, performance methodologies and portfolio construction basics

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills with strong attention to detail

  • Exceptional written and verbal presentation skills, including ability to succinctly synthesize data, develop recommendations, and create and present materials

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build consensus among multiple stakeholders

  • Adept at identifying and implementing efficiencies and process improvements

  • Strong organizational and project management skills and ability to evolve with changing demands

Compensation:

  • The salary range for this role is $91,100 - $145,500. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position​
