Compensation Range:

$36.87 - $47.93

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

Under direction of the laboratory section leadership and with the ability to work independently, provides higher level support for the CoreLab, often involving (but not limited to) specialized testing, Quality Assurance development, and/or development and implementation of new procedures. Testing is routinely performed without supervision and complex interpretation of results is required. When applicable, keeps meticulous notes in regard to experimental methods, data, and conclusions. With laboratory area leadership, develops and maintains applicable standard operating procedures and policies. Communicates with internal and external clients clearly and professionally. Responsibilities may include setting up and monitoring ongoing programs specific to the laboratory section together with department leadership. With laboratory area leadership, develops and maintains procedure manual and manages inventory of supplies.

The Mycobacteriology (AFB) Technical Specialist serves as the key resource in the specialty area. This Specialist maintains inventory for test procedures performed in AFB, perform monthly reviews of bench task lists and quality control documents, have oversight for maintenance of instrumentation within the laboratory, coordinate/train technologists, perform competencies in accordance with policy and regulatory requirements, review temperature anomalies with the Aeroscout monitoring system in AFB and bring issues to the attention of a supervisor, if needed. The AFB Specialist will document corrective actions for non-conformances according to laboratory policy and regulatory requirements. This Specialist may review or write protocols for the AFB laboratory, as needed. They are aware of due dates for Proficiency Testing samples and ensure protocols are followed and testing is completed on time and may assist in gathering documents and information in preparation of internal or external regulatory audits. The MT Specialist serves as a supervisor in the absence of a supervisor in the laboratory.

Qualifications

- BS Medical Technology or similar science major, MS in Medical Technology or similar science major preferred

- BS degree- 4 years of clinical laboratory experience, MS degree- 3 years of clinical laboratory experience

- or equivalent combination of education and experience required

- Fundamental knowledge of the specialty area, excellent written and verbal communication skills, suitable organizational skills preferred

- NYS license Clinical Laboratory Technologist required
