Frontend Web Internship- Summer 2024

Our Mission

SPAN develops products that accelerate the home's rapid adoption of renewable energy. The flagship SPAN Smart Panel is the first true evolution of the traditional home electric panel, harnessing enhanced metering, monitoring, and control technology. An expanded product suite of intelligent, integrated solutions radically lowers the cost and complexity of energy upgrades–including solar, batteries, and EVs–empowering homeowners to be active, resilient, and informed players in the energy market. 

The Role 

SPAN’s web team is seeking a full time intern for the summer of 2024. The web team is a small but mighty team of senior engineers providing key web apps for SPAN panel users, potential users, internal teams such as support and engineering, and even utility companies.

In this role you will work towards our mission of “electrification for all” by collaborating closely with frontend, cloud, and even device software to help connect our SPAN smart panels to beautiful and delightful React/Typescript based web portals.

As we are a startup, this list should be considered neither exhaustive nor complete. We are excited for people to explore responsibilities outside their normal areas of expertise if the need or interest arises.

About You 

Required Qualifications

• Strong proficiency with Javascript

• Strong abilities creating web UIs in CSS

• Experience building web applications that connect to a server with REST, GraphQL, or gRPC

Bonus Qualifications

• Skill with Typescript

• Skill with React

• Experience with Nextjs

• Experience with TDD and frontend testing frameworks, such as Jest

• Experience with gRPC and/or IoT

• Cloud/Backend experience (eg. with NodeJS)

 

The Internship position has a duration of 12 weeks and will start in May or June of 2024. Candidates must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, and have not graduated prior to end of the Internship term.

The hourly rate for this role is $30/ hour for undergrad students, and $32/hr for Masters or PhD students.
