The Role

This position is responsible for managing the planning, coordination and execution of high profile visits and tours, and works with the corporate office and division leadership to determine scope, schedule and tour route. Supports the planning, coordination and execution of special events and serves as NNS’ primary liaison for ship’s sponsors and other distinguished guests, to include coordinating tours, special event participation and travel. Staffs senior leadership team and other NNS representatives participating in domestic and international tradeshows and builds strong relationships with key business partners to ensure optimal support. Serves as the company’s protocol officer, requiring strict attention to detail and a keen understanding of business priorities and relationships. Serves as backup to NNS’ executive communications manager, drafting speeches and letters as appropriate. This position will also play a key role on the company’s Emergency Response Organization (ERO) team by providing Public Affairs support, including drafting employee communications and press statements as appropriate.

 

Develops, plans, and conducts public relations and public affairs programs to improve and support company business objectives with the media, public, industry, stockholders, and employees. Plans, writes and disseminates information utilizing print, broadcast and/or intranet/internet media. Writes and edits press releases, media materials, speeches, scripts, articles and business presentations. Influences public opinion and policy decisions through strategic communications activities. Corrects inaccuracies and acts as company's spokesperson and develops relationship with media and advocacy organizations. Identifies, secures and prepares key opinion leaders and internal spokespeople to provide perspective and insight to the media. Works closely with global communications, marketing, international relations, and other departments to provide communications counsel on business needs. May represent the company at press conferences, briefings and presentations on company issues. May participate and support advertising campaigns, and/or edit material for organization publications. May supervise work of outside consultants, including public relations agencies.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience; Master’s Degree and 4 years of relevant experience


One of the following may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

 

  • NNS Apprentice School graduate 
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
  • Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience 
  • High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
  • High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience

Nice to Have

  • Degree in communications or related field preferred.
  • Excellent writing skills and proficiency in AP style as well as software used to create written and digital communications (Microsoft Office, AdobeCreative Cloud, SharePoint, WordPress)
  • Knowledge of NNS shipyard operations and familiarity with company communication channels.
