Overview
WithersRavenel is recruiting a Planner III/Project Manager to join their Community Planning group in the Design + Planning practice area! You will work with local governments and their citizens in community visioning and goal setting, updates to development ordinances, the creation of long-range planning documents, and supporting public engagement. You will help communities across the state formalize their goals and then bring those dreams to life through comprehensive plan development, ordinance updates, and by providing on-call planning services.
This is a hybrid role, where employees and supervisors collaborate to establish an in- and out-of-office schedule that “works” for all involved.
Responsibilities
- Manage projects (comprehensive plans, development ordinances, and on-call planning services), oversee and delegate tasks, and ensure client satisfaction through the execution of high-quality deliverables on-time and on-budget.
- Lead public involvement, meeting facilitation, and presentations to community groups, including local appointed and elected bodies.
- Assist in the preparation of project scopes, schedules, budgets, proposals, and agreements.
- Build your portfolio of work while also building up junior staff.
- Participate in the pursuit of key projects as well as department initiatives.

Requirements
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, City Planning or equivalent
- Four years of applicable professional planning experience, showing progressively increased responsibility with project or task management
- AICP Certification or ability to achieve within 6 months of hire
- Ability to create high quality deliverables for local government clients
- Thorough understanding of NC land use and development regulations (e.g. – NCGS 160D)
- Advanced knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of urban planning and of local government policies and procedures
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and oral/written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to achieve client expectations
Preferred:
- 1+ years performing project management
- 1+ years of experience in private sector consulting
- Understanding of all aspects of at least one of the following service lines: long range planning, ordinance updates, or on-call plan review services
- Familiarity with GIS, Bluebeam, MS Office, basic InDesign, and Smartsheet – or the ability and desire to learn.
