About the role

Description

The Department of Theology at the University of Notre Dame invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track professorships at the assistant professor rank, one with a focus in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament and another with a focus in New Testament. These faculty members will be part of the department’s Christianity and Judaism in Antiquity area, which concentrates on the formation, meaning, and interpretation of Jewish and Christian scripture in the ancient world with a strong emphasis on the historical and linguistic skills required to engage in this study. The starting date for these positions will be August 25, 2025. Responsibilities will include research and publication, teaching and mentoring students at all levels—doctoral (and pre-doctoral), ministerial, and undergraduate—and service to the department and university. The successful candidates will show evidence of strong scholarship and a trajectory toward a field-leading contribution to the study of the Bible. They will also be sympathetic to the mission of the University of Notre Dame, which seeks a distinctive educational and scholarly excellence that is founded on its Catholic identity. A PhD or equivalent in biblical studies, theology, or a closely related discipline is expected, though exceptional ABD candidates may also be considered.
