The Director, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) plays a pivotal role in shaping and directing the strategies and initiatives that ensure the well-being of team members, and compliance with environmental regulations. This position involves overseeing the development, implementation, and enforcement of policies and procedures aimed at minimizing health risks and occupational hazards across all operational levels. The Director is responsible for fostering a culture of safety and accountability, collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate safety practices into daily operations, while maintaining a focus on continuous improvement. Tapping into expertise in industrial processes, the role advocates for innovations that enhance workplace safety and organizational health. Through partnership with functional VPs, Directors, Plant Management and the EHS functional team members throughout the globe, the Director supports the company's overarching goals and drives sustainable practices that benefit both employees and the environment. Strategic thinking, leadership, and a proactive approach to problem-solving are essential qualities that contribute to the significant impact this role has on the organization's success.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive EHS strategies and policies to ensure regulatory compliance and enhance workplace safety.
  • Oversee the creation and enforcement of safety protocols and procedures across all operational levels to minimize health risks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety practices into daily operations, ensuring a culture of safety and accountability.
  • Advocate for and drive innovations and improvements in workplace safety and organizational health using industrial process expertise.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of EHS programs and practices globally.
  • Partner with functional VPs, Directors, Plant Management, and EHS teams to support company goals and sustainable practices.
  • Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics to identify trends and opportunities for safety enhancements.
  • Responsible for developing and overseeing physical security strategies and plans across all facilities, including site security assessments, incident response planning, and on‑the‑job security training for employees.


Leadership Responsibilities

  • Oversee and optimize team dynamics, leading a high-performing team and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Cultivate a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement, incorporating strategies for inclusion and diversity to enhance team effectiveness and creativity.
  • Provide strategic guidance to foster the success and growth of each group, ensuring an inclusive environment where all voices are heard and valued.


Qualifications

  • Bachelors Related Field required
  • 10+ Years Developing and enforcing safety protocols required, including across multi-sites
  • 7+ Years Leading EHS strategies and policy implementation required
  • 7+ Years Driving innovations in workplace safety required
  • 5+ Years Collaborating with cross-functional teams required
  • 5+ Years Experience leading EHS professionals (solid or dotted line reporting) required
  • 5+ Years Experience in industry-specific safety processes preferred
  • Experience and knowledge of OSHA, EPA, Incident Investigation required
  • OSHA Inspection & Compliance
  • Worker’s Compensation experience strongly preferred
  • Equivalent combination of experience and education which clearly indicates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute on a year for year basis
  • OSHA 30 - Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) CSP certification to demonstrate expertise in safety management within 180 Days required and
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) - Board of Certified Safety Professionals Board of Certified Safety Professionals CSP certification to demonstrate expertise in safety management within 1 Year required and
  • Associate Safety Professionals (ASP) - Board of Certified Safety Professionals Credential that validates understanding of core safety, health, and environmental concepts preferred or
  • OSHA 511 - Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) preferred
