Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is a research-intensive academic medical center renowned for its excellence in medical education and highly regarded residency programs and is a major teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. The Internal Medicine Residency Program Director at BIDMC serves a critical leadership position in the overall success of the educational mission of the Department of Medicine.

The Opportunity

The Internal Medicine Residency Program Director will lead a celebrated, top-tier program with a remarkable collection of research and resources, an exceptional culture, and an impressive track record of educational quality. The RPD oversees all aspects of residency education for the Department of Medicine, and is responsible for the culture, quality, and oversight of clinical, teaching, and scholarly activity for all residents. The RPD is expected to maintain high standards and to train future leaders in internal medicine. The 165 internal medicine residents in the program treat patients at BIDMC and at other outstanding affiliated institutions including Dana Farber Cancer Institute, West Roxbury VA Medical Center, and Fenway Community Health Center. BIDMC is a robust, urban hospital that serves as a major tertiary care referral center for the New England region, allowing residents to care for the full spectrum of medical conditions in a diverse patient population.

The Ideal Candidate

The Residency Program Director should be an outstanding physician/educator with a depth and breadth of experience in graduate medical education, including some leadership within GME. The RPD will have experience working as part of an interdisciplinary, interprofessional team to create an educational environment that promotes high quality care, diversity, cultural sensitivity, patient safety, and resident wellbeing. Additionally, the Residency Program Director should be engaged in scholarship/inquiry, have a regional or national presence in medical education, and must be ABIM-certified.

The Region

BIDMC is located in the Longwood Medical area of Boston, which is rich with internationally-renowned hospitals, colleges and biomedical research centers. In addition to being the location for BIDMC, it is home to Harvard Medical School as well as several Harvard-affiliated institutions. The Longwood Medical area has easy access to downtown Boston. Fenway Park and many pubs and restaurants are a convenient walk from the Longwood area.
