The Inpatient Pediatric Pharmacy Technician I/II supports the safe and efficient delivery of pharmaceutical care to pediatric patients at Duke Children's Hospital. This position works closely with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely medication preparation, distribution, and inventory management in a fast-paced hospital environment.
Work Schedule
- Full-time (40 hours/week)
- 8 shifts in a row
- 10-hour shifts
- Night shift
- Rotating weekends and holiday coverage
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare and draw up oral medications into patient-specific oral syringes.
- Compound immediate-use sterile IV preparations under pharmacist supervision and in accordance with applicable policies and regulatory requirements.
- Deliver medications throughout the hospital, including stocking and replenishing Omnicell automated dispensing cabinets.
- Answer pharmacy phones, triage calls, and appropriately route questions and requests to pharmacists or other pharmacy personnel.
- Process medication requests and assist with medication distribution activities.
- Maintain medication inventory, perform stock replenishment, and rotate inventory to minimize waste.
- Support the preparation, packaging, labeling, and distribution of medications.
- Assist with controlled substance documentation and inventory activities as assigned.
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies, state and federal regulations, and medication safety standards.
- Provide excellent customer service to nursing staff, providers, patients, and families.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hospital pharmacy experience preferred; retail pharmacy experience will also be considered.
- Active North Carolina Pharmacy Technician registration (or eligibility to obtain).
- Experience with automated dispensing cabinets (Omnicell), medication distribution systems, or sterile compounding preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced pediatric hospital environment.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Pharmacy Tech I: High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited pharmacy technician-training program. or Acceptance into pharmacy school. or High school diploma or equivalent and one year of pharmacy or health care related experience.
- Pharmacy Tech II: High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited pharmacy technician-training program. or Acceptance into pharmacy school. or High school diploma or equivalent and one year of pharmacy or health care related experience.

- Pharmacy Tech II: Minimum of one years related experience.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
- Pharmacy Tech I: Must be registered with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy within the first 180 days.
