Laboratory for Research on the Structure of Matter (LRSM) Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates

Description

The LRSM will offer up to twenty Summer Research Fellowships to undergraduates from colleges and universities in the United States who are majoring in science or engineering. Each will work under the supervision of a faculty member on a current materials research project in chemistry, physics, biochemistry, biophysics, materials science, or engineering. Summer Fellows will have access to all the research facilities of the LRSM and other laboratories, as required.  The program will not only provide an authentic laboratory research experience but also workshops (mandatory and optional) focused on professional development in broader scientific and career skills. Fellows will be expected to fully participate in all REU related activities including 2 oral presentations before the end of the summer period.

Qualifications

- All undergraduate students currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in a STEM field are eligible to apply (note, seniors who are graduating before the program begins are ineligible).

- Applicants must be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or U.S. permanent residents.

• CURRENT transcript (PDF, unofficial transcripts are acceptable)
• 2 Letters of recommendation (one must be from a faculty member at the applicant’s current college)

NOTE: Your best letters will be from faculty mentors/advisors, previous (or current) course instructors, and previous (or current) research supervisors. Individuals should be able to speak to your academic achievements and abilities, as well as personal characteristics and professional promise. Letters of recommendation (PDF files only) must be uploaded directly to the Interfolio system by each letter writer.
