The Medical Assistant Externship Coordinator plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between academic preparation and real-world healthcare practice. This position is integral to ensuring that aspiring Medical Assistants gain hands-on experience through high-quality externship opportunities, fostering their professional growth and readiness for the healthcare industry. Operating within a structured and compliance-driven framework, this role requires a strategic approach to developing and maintaining partnerships with externship sites while upholding industry standards.

This position offers a dynamic work environment where your contributions directly impact student success and the quality of healthcare education. By leveraging your expertise in the medical assisting field, you will play a critical role in shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals.

  • Secure and manage a robust network of externship sites for Medical Assistant students, ensuring alignment with program goals and industry standards.
  • Achieve and maintain a minimum of 40% extern-to-hire conversion rate across assigned sites.
  • Conduct regular site visits to assess student performance, provide feedback, and strengthen relationships with externship partners.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and accreditation requirements, including adherence to TWC regulations.
  • Collaborate with Career Services and Placement teams to facilitate seamless transitions from externship to full-time employment opportunities.
  • Provide guidance and counseling to students on attendance, professionalism, and performance expectations during their externship experience.
  • Conduct externship orientations and assist students with resume writing, interview preparation, and other career readiness activities.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including timecards, evaluations, and affiliation agreements.
  • Track student progress throughout the externship, ensuring completion of final evaluations and exit interviews.
  • Engage in outreach and networking activities to promote the program and develop new externship opportunities within the medical community.
  • A minimum of 3+ years of practical experience in the medical assisting field, demonstrating a strong understanding of industry practices and standards.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential is required to ensure credibility and expertise in the role.
  • CPR certification is preferred, reflecting a commitment to maintaining essential healthcare skills.
  • No prior teaching experience is necessary; however, a passion for student success and professional development is essential.
