Plans and directs the activities of a major athletic team. Directs conditioning of student athletes to achieve maximum athletic performance, assesses players skills and assigns team positions, evaluates own and opposition team capabilities to determine game strategy, and coaches or directs coaches to instruct players in techniques of game.Responsibilities:
- Ensure all student-athletes are "good-standing" with all BSU, NCAA, and CIAA rules and regulations. Review rules with all student-athletes, monitor academic athletic progress, provide counseling when necessary and work closely with assistant athletic director for student success and the faculty athletic representative (FAR). Assist in academic scheduling, when necessary, inform and ensure student-athletes participate in all department-sponsored functions (lectures, orientations, mandatory compliance trainings, drug testing, etc.). Maintain accurate records of student-athlete’s performance and any disciplinary issues. Ensure all student athletes comply with institutional financial aid and residential lifer regulations.
- Promote the holistic development of student-athletes by fostering leadership, character building, and life skills to support success beyond athletics.
- Create and maintain an inclusive team culture that values diversity, equity, and respect among all participants.
Organize and encourage participation in community service and outreach programs to strengthen relationships between the football program, the university, and the local community.
Ensure compliance with all institutional and NCAA health and safety protocols, including concussion management and emergency preparedness procedures.
Engage in continuous professional development to maintain current knowledge of coaching strategies, compliance requirements, and leadership practices.
Must attend all Rules Education (Compliance Coffeehouses) to maintain satisfactory rules knowledge and documenting compliance activities, which are mandatory. All athletics personnel must adhere to compliance regulations.
Maintain fiduciary control of all allocated budget funds. Manage, maintain and safeguard all issued equipment. Maintain fiduciary control of all fund-raising activities that support and supplement the team’s budget. Develop a summer camp program to raise funds for the program and to enhance the visibility of the university.
Work with the VP for Athletics and the Associate AD for external Affairs to raise funds for the Bulldog Booster Club (football) and for the infrastructure improvement of Bulldog Stadium.
Develop with the VP for Athletics, Associate Athletic Directors, and Athletic Media Director, a comprehensive intercollegiate schedule with opposing institutions. Maintain positive and professional relationships with external and internal constituents.
Work with Equipment and Facilities Manager to ensure compliance of issued equipment and develop a schedule for use of facilities.
Work with the Athletics Trainers to ensure the medical safety of all participants.
Attend all athletic staff meetings. Attend institutional sponsored events (open house, orientation, senior awards banquet, and alumni events, etc.…). Represent BSU at conference coaches’ meetings and all meetings or events as directed by the VP of Athletics.
Recruit responsible and talented student athletes who are fully engaged in the mission and priorities of the university. Work with admissions to arrange on-campus visits for all prospective student-athletes with their parents. Insure all BSU, NCAA, and CIAA recruitment policies and procedures are adhered to and complied with.
Establish and maintain a high level of discipline and respect by student-athletes and coaches. Ensure that all issues related to disciplinary action are addressed immediately with a behavior modification program (documented).
Minimum Qualifications:
- A minimum of five years’ coaching experience on the collegiate level.
- An appreciation of a culturally diverse student population; ability to initiate and manage services and programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skill
