Roche Diagnostics has focused on providing an expanding array of diagnostics and therapies in the field of genomics medicine.  A cornerstone to these efforts lies in the development of a revolutionary new DNA sequencing platform that will set new standards in the speed and access to personalized care for treating cancer and a host of other medical conditions well into the future.  This will require us to keep building on our understanding and to continue to innovate. 

In the role of primary Mechanical Engineer,  you will be part of a design team that integrates and tests new instrumentation for improving the DNA sequencing process.  

The Opportunity

  • Function as the primary Mechanical Engineer in a team of scientists and engineers that supports instrument development for genomic sequencing process automation

  • Conduct design, systems integration and capture of 3D models for microfluidic-based instruments

  • Conduct feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs

  • Participate in the design and management of precision molds for disposable microfluidic cartridges

  • Organize and maintain version control of model databases

  • Develop project plans for short and long-term goals

  • Conceptualize, design, analyze, build, verify, document, and validate the subsystems, systems or solutions

  • Perform detailed engineering analysis, including tolerances, FMEA, FEA and DFx

  • Identify and characterize critical parameters to achieve high reliability, robustness, and lifetime performance

  • Assist in hiring and training of engineering team

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field is required

  • Graduate Degree preferred

  • 3+ years related experience

  • Must work well in teams and maintain good team communication

  • Must maintain and present their work in a well organized and accessible manner

  • Should be proficient in developing 3D models and maintaining version control history (fluency in Solid Works preferred)

  • Have experience in systems integration and instrumentation design, assembly and test

  • Has preferred experience in areas of:

    • Process control and automation

    • Microfluidics

    • Mold design

    • Biomaterials

    • Thermal analysis, control

Relocation benefits are available for this position.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Seattle, Washington is $96,200 to $178,600.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
