Senior Database Administrator - PostgreSQL Specialist (Gaming / Remote)

<p><strong>ManpowerGroup Greece</strong>, on behalf of its client, an International Technology Services Provider, offering gaming solutions, is seeking for a <strong>Senior Database Administrator – PostgreSQL Specialist</strong> to join their Platform Engineering Team</p><p><strong>Workplace Location:</strong> Athens, Northern Suburbs – Hybrid OR Fully Remote (you need to be based in Greece and holder of a valid EU Work Permit) </p><p><strong>What you will be doing:</strong> </p><p>As a <strong>Senior Database Administrator – PostgreSQL Specialist</strong>, you will be assisting in building self-service tools and high-performance platforms that scale, supporting all customers and products. Also, you will be acting as the technical authority for the company’s database systems, both in production and non-production environments. </p><p><strong>Your main responsibilities will be:</strong> </p><ul> <li>Optimizing database performance through indexing and query optimization techniques </li> <li>Collaborating with software engineering teams in designing, updating, and implementing database schemas </li> <li>Designing and implementing database monitoring </li> <li>Reviewing performance logs and metrics and suggesting improvements </li> <li>Collaborating with the software delivery teams to ensure database-related improvements and enhancements are prioritized as part of their sprints </li> <li>Working with the rest of Platform Engineering and other teams to schedule, organize and perform database upgrades keeping all systems up to date </li> <li>Writing technical documentation, including runbooks and incident models for the Support teams, and maintaining knowledge of new technologies and updates for all supported databases </li> <li>Mentoring/training engineers in writing performant queries and designing systems/schemas that scale </li> <li>Acting as an escalation contact for high-impact production issues, including out-of-hours </li> <li>Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy, and integrity </li> </ul><p><strong>Requirements</strong></p><ul><li>BSc/MSc in Computer Science, Engineering, Database Systems or equivalent </li></ul><ul> <li>5+ years of experience supporting heavy transactional PostgreSQL systems </li> <li>Proven record of acting at a senior level </li> <li>Experience in troubleshooting and performance analysis </li> <li>Performing schema reviews </li> <li>Mentoring engineering and other technical teams in dos and don'ts </li> <li>Automation of database installations, configuration, and tuning </li> <li>Extensive knowledge of at least one currently supported PostgreSQL version (&lt;= 11.x) </li> <li>In-depth theoretical knowledge of database systems including but not limited to indexes, partitioning, transactions, storage, replication, networking, authentication, clustering, and sharding </li> <li>Excellent knowledge of database backup and recovery </li> <li>A demonstrable, good level of knowledge in the following areas </li> <li>Linux, terminal, and command line tools </li> <li>Network protocols; HTTP/HTTPS and SSH are a must </li> <li>Scripting skills (any of Go, Python, Bash, ansible) </li> <li>Linux Containers, Docker, and associated ecosystem of tools </li> <li>GitOps (Automation, CI/CD, Infrastructure as code) </li> <li>Excellent English language skills </li> </ul><p><strong>Experience in any of the following will be highly appreciated</strong> </p><ul> <li>Knowledge of newer versions of PostgreSQL (14 and 15), benefits, improvements, and added functionalities compared to previous versions </li> <li>Cloud technologies, especially AWS RDS, AWS Aurora, and other AWS </li> <li>Working knowledge of other database systems both RDBMS and NoSQL (Oracle, DB2, Cassandra, Redis) </li> <li>Programming experience/background in a major programming language </li> <li>Kubernetes </li> <li>Industry-standard tools and technologies like Prometheus, ElasticSearch, Graylog, Grafana, Kibana, or similar </li> </ul><p></p><p><strong>Benefits</strong></p><ul> <li>Attractive salary and a bonus plan </li> <li>Private Medical and Life Insurance Plan </li> <li>Continuous training </li> <li>Extensive leave plan (annual/sick) </li> <li>Employee Assistance program with specialized Counselors / Licensed Psychologist </li> <li>Friendly working environment </li> </ul>
