Status: Full-time (Non-exempt)
Job Summary: We are seeking an Accounting Assistant to become an integral part of our team! This position will handle a variety of administrative duties to help support our accounting team, with a strong focus on daily administrative tasks and reporting. Candidates need to have advanced knowledge with Microsoft Office Suite to support business needs and be self-motivated to work independently. We are seeking a very detail orientated candidate who can collaborate across multi-functional departments and teams such as customer service, sales, operations, marketing, and accounting. Duties/Responsibilities:
- Support and assist the Accounting Supervisor and team in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance/Accounting Department
- Perform a variety of finance and accounting tasks related to one or more of the following functions but not limited to: accounts payable, accounts receivable, sales tax, record keeping, cash entries, bank reconciliations, intercompany reconciliations, month- and year-end processes
- Receive and cost incoming product shipments, report discrepancies to the Manufacturer, and verify outstanding credits have been received for product shortages
- Perform and regularly maintain detailed reconciliations, analysis of assigned general ledger accounts and prepare journal entries as needed for review
- Analyze expenses comparing against prior periods, projected spend and contract agreements for reasonableness; for example, freight, shipping, utilities and other expenses
- Assist with daily sales tax responsibilities; review and setup of customer exemption requirements, processing of tax credits as needed
- Assist with monthly and annual sales/use tax requirements, working with third party sales tax partner
- Assist with store accounting responsibilities including but not limited to; daily close out and deposit process, local deliveries, store supply allocations and store expense review
- Compile and maintain accurate accounting and finance records
- Handle confidential material relevant to company operations
- Conducts special analytical projects to assist others within the company
- Collaborates across multi-functional departments and teams
- Promotes a positive atmosphere and work environment in the department
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with all SSG employees, customers, and vendors
- Perform such other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as may be required from time to time quite often on short notice
Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities:
- College experience or Bachelor’s degree in Business with an accounting or finance emphasis is preferred
- A minimum of 2 years related accounting experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience required
- Working knowledge of accepted accounting standards and procedures, including experience with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- Experience working in a fast-paced and customer-focused environment
- Knowledgeable and comfortable working in standard business and professional tools and equipment
- Experience working with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and working with accounting software packages
- Must have attention to detail and data accuracy
- Must be a Problem Solver that is able to resolve problems in a timely manner, by gathering and analyzing information skillfully
- The ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects while meeting competing deadlines
- Ability to analyze data and perform reconciliations of financial reports
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
- Flexibility and willingness to undertake and learn new tasks as business processes change, and
