At our Company, we currently have an opening for an Upstream Senior Specialist with our Process Development group. A successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply their enthusiasm and technical skills as a member of a multidisciplinary team supporting the operation of pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, vaccine product manufacturing facilities. 

This position provides a unique opportunity to contribute at an individual level and to potentially supervise and/or mentor a team. More specifically, the Upstream Process Development Senior Specialist will participate in driving the development, optimization, and characterization of current and future upstream processes at the laboratory and pilot scales by leading upstream process development operations.

Minimum Education Requirement and Experience:

• Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemical, Biological Engineering, or related field with five (5) years of relevant industrial experience OR
• Master of Science (MS) in Chemical, Biological Engineering, or related field with three (3) years of relevant industrial experience OR
• PhD in in Chemical, Biological Engineering, or related field with one (1) year of relevant industrial experience

Required Experience and Skills:

• Strong experience with microbial fermentation for producing recombinant proteins, process optimization and relevant analytical methods.
• Strong knowledge of microbial physiology and metabolisms.  
• Ability to learn quickly and work in a fast-paced team environment is desirable.
• Good documentation practices and maintaining an electronic laboratory notebook and adhering to strong safety culture.
• Hands on laboratory operations experience including high-throughput, bench scale and/or pilot scale bioreactors.
• Experience with process development/optimization in a laboratory and pilot setting.
• Experience in statistics, design-of-experiments (DoE), data analysis (i.e., JMP, Spotfire) and presentation of results/conclusions
• Working knowledge of lab automation, data management, data science, knowledge management and data protection.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to problem solving, with a bias toward going to see problems for oneself in the field. 
• Ability to work independently and within a team collaborating with multiple partner teams.
• Excellent technical, organizational, interpersonal, collaborative, and verbal/written communication skills are required. 
• Enthusiasm, confidence, and initiative-taking ability needed for continuous learning and its applications. 
• A strong desire to succeed and to help others to do the same.
• Ability and willingness to occasionally support shift work depending on the needs of the project or team.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

• Experience with E. coli and/or Yeast fermentation.
• Experience in planning and coordinating laboratory operations.
• Experience working in a GLP/GMP environment is a plus.
• Able to have a flexible work schedule – occasional shift work.
• Excellent organization skills to manage multiple projects or assignments.
• Experience trouble shooting technical issues (experimental, instrument-reHi hilated issues etc.).
• Experience in method development and method transfer.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Participation in regulatory agency inspections.
• Strong preference to safety culture.
