About the Role

As a Sr Software Engineer on our team, you’ll play a key role in building and scaling the backend systems that power our platform. You’ll work on high-impact projects, contribute to architectural decisions, and help shape the future of our technology stack. We’re looking for engineers who are passionate about clean code, scalable systems, and mentoring others while solving complex technical challenges.

What You'll Do

• Actively participates in team design discussions and architectural decisions
• Lead technical research and spikes, partnering with subject matter experts
• Implement and document new software components
• Understand how code fits into broader technical and/or business context
• Capable of working on medium projects independently, and large projects with supervision
• Identify and reduce technical debt proactively
• Drive the triage, debugging and resolution of production issues, including root cause analysis (RCA)
• Leaves code in better shape than before
• Ensure high testability and quality of delivered software
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including QA, DevOps, and Product
• Write and maintain unit and integration tests using modern testing frameworks
• Lead and actively participate in code reviews, providing thoughtful and constructive feedback
• Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance on best practices

About You

• 6+ years of experience with Java, Spring/Spring Boot and design patterns
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field of study; or equivalent work experience
• You have experience in designing, building, and maintaining RESTful web services and microservices architectures
• Strong knowledge of data structures and algorithmic problem-solving
• Advanced understanding of backend architecture and how components interact
• Ability to investigate and troubleshoot complex technical issues independently
• Awareness of application security and performance concerns and best practices
• Ability to articulate design trade-offs and evaluate solutions thoughtfully
• You can translate a user story into modular, maintainable code.
• You have experience working with agile methodology, test-driven development, source control management, and automated testing
• You have strong ownership and knowledge of features within a domain
• You possess superb communication skills
• You are a self-motivated teammate who excels in a reciprocal environment

Work Location
San Francisco

The above locations are eligible offices for this role. The locations have been determined to foster in-person collaboration with this role’s team or the related business lines. We utilize a hybrid work model, and our teams are in-office Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. In-person attendance is essential for this role’s success, and remote placement will not be considered. LendingClub offers relocation, based on actual job level.

While the position will primarily work local hours, LendingClub is headquartered in Pacific Time and our ideal candidate will be flexible working across time zones when necessary.
