40Position Summary
The Jin lab at Washington University School of Medicine is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Research Assistant. I am a cancer doctor who treats esophageal cancer patients in the clinic, and studies esophageal cancer in the research lab. I am committed to not only understanding the basic science of esophageal cancer, but also, and more importantly, taking new discoveries and translating them into real improvements in the way we treat esophageal cancer patients.My lab is interested in the injury response of the upper gastrointestinal tract to chronic injury/inflammation, and the mechanisms by which these processes induce cancer development. This position is responsible for assisting with laboratory duties in a basic translational science research setting. Specifically, the research assistant is responsible for basic molecular biology and cell culture tasks such as working with primary human cell lines, performing genotyping, GI tract routine histology staining, and mouse husbandry. There will be opportunity to contribute to a variety of different projects studying the molecular determinants of cancer development in the upper GI tract.
Assists with research study, experiments, preparation of material, and documentation.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Conducts research experiments and assays.
- Evaluates research results, reports findings and discusses project outcomes with staff involved.
- Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
- Coordinates tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.
- Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
- Coordinates research project with other institutions and investigators.
- Participates in developing hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing it.
- Assists with general supply/equipment orders, lab maintenance and cleaning.
- Performs literature research on specified topics.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Works in laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to implement general laboratory procedures, conduct research and record findings.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of experience in laboratory operations or equivalent combination of education and experience equaling 6 years.

$16.76 - $28.51 / HourlyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.Questions
