About the role

Let’s care for tomorrow.

Your Team
As part of the Allianz Commercial global Allianz Risk Consulting team and reporting to the Regional Head of Allianz Risk Consulting based in France, you will belong to a small international team of Marine Engineering experts who provide loss-control expertise, support and assistance to colleagues and customers, to assist Allianz Marine Underwriting in risk selection and retention.

This position requires strong relationship skills to develop and maintain professional working relationships both outside Allianz among customers and brokers, but also internally with our underwriters, claims professionals and risk engineers.

Full fluency in business French and English is key, and additional languages could be a plus.

You will be responsible for reviewing and assessing submissions in the Marine market to support our underwriting products.

You will co-ordinate and monitor the loss control activity and servicing of assigned accounts, undertake loss-control survey work, and provide risk consultancy on existing and prospective accounts. With your diplomatic and commercial people skills, you will develop and maintain excellent working relationships with Allianz Underwriting, Distribution and Claims teams, as well as with clients and brokers. Your passion for Marine risks across the board will lead you to constantly enhance your technical expertise, which you will share with your peers.

Some of your specific responsibilities could include:

  • Supporting the Underwriting team in assessing market submissions for new and existing business
  • Completing desk top reviews and risk assessments (pre & post loss) for underwriting, evaluating and summarising exposures and controls, for Cargo and Hull, Ports and Terminal Surveys
  • Working with underwriting, claims, the client and the broker, where appropriate, to develop customised loss-control programs
  • Writing and reviewing reports (eg. Loss-control reports and bulletins, recommendations) in a timely manner
  • Surveying client operations including vessel assessments, obtaining data, identifying hazards and discussing findings with appropriate parties
  • Appointing 3rd parties to ensure adequate contracts and controls are in place, agreeing on budgets and monitoring quality and any issues
  • Participating in regional and international projects to improve systems and processes, and to spread best practice regarding Marine risk among both internal and external stakeholders

What You’ll Bring to the Role
You are a Marine Risk Engineer, or a Master Mariner or Chief Engineer with around 10 years of experience at sea (navy or merchant fleet, ship-owners, TIC services)

  • You demonstrate strong technical knowledge of loss control in the marine industry and have a good understanding of the specialty Insurance sector
  • Experience in industry with responsibilities in operations, process design, engineering technical support or other related areas
  • A self-starter, able to develop and implement initiatives with a minimum input from the management
  • Adaptable with excellent organizational and communication skills, at ease in a multinational context with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • At ease with IT and other digital and data processing tools
  • Perform well under pressure and able to meet challenging deadlines
