Position Summary
The Supervisor, Outpatient Pharmacy Operations will work closely with pharmacy leadership to implement policies, enhance service delivery, and foster a culture of teamwork, safety, and family-centered care. This person will handle day-to-day leadership and operational oversight for Boston Children’s Hospital’s Outpatient Pharmacy, encompassing both retail and specialty services.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervises daily operations for retail and specialty pharmacy teams, ensuring adherence to all regulatory, safety, and hospital standards. Collaborates with pharmacists, technicians, and administrative staff to maintain high-quality standards in dispensing, delivery, and patient support.
- Coordinates staffing, scheduling, and task assignments to maintain efficient workflow and service coverage. Provides direct supervision to pharmacy technicians and pharmacy support specialists, fostering a collaborative and accountable work environment.
- Oversees prescription verification, fulfillment, and delivery processes to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and patient satisfaction.
- Ensures safe, efficient, and compliant pharmacy operations, including prescription processing, inventory management, patient coordination, and staff supervision.
- Monitors and optimizes inventory control, purchasing, and reconciliation processes in coordination with the Pharmacy Inventory and Logistics Coordinator.
- Responsible for staffing, workflow optimization, quality assurance, and training across both retail and specialty operations.
- Supports 340B program compliance, accreditation readiness (URAC, ACHC), and performance improvement initiatives, including collaboration with third-party administrators (TPAs) for split-billing reconciliation and audit readiness.
- Ensures operational compliance with URAC, ACHC, and Board of Pharmacy standards, participating in accreditation and inspection activities.
- Assists in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and training programs that promote safety and efficiency.
- Analyzes performance metrics, identifies process improvement opportunities, and implements corrective actions as needed.
- Participates in hiring, onboarding, and competency evaluations of pharmacy staff.
- Serves as a liaison between pharmacy leadership, hospital departments, and external partners to coordinate patient and provider needs. Upholds and models BCH’s values of respect, teamwork, safety, and family-centered care in all interactions.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy required; Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) preferred
- Minimum of 3 years in a hospital outpatient pharmacy, one year of specialty pharmacy exp required
- Strong working knowledge of Epic Willow Ambulatory, 340B program operations, and third-party administrator (TPA) platforms required.
- Familiarity with URAC/ACHC accreditation, USP standards, and state Board of Pharmacy regulations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage complex workflows across multiple service lines.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities with attention to operational detail.
- Proficiency with data management, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality, compliance, and patient-centered care consistent with Boston Children’s Hospital standards.
- Pharmacist license in the state of MA
