Corbion’s Algae Ingredients business is based in South San Francisco and leads the industry in developing new applications and markets for algae-based products. We have a range of sustainably produced algae products that deliver breakthrough innovations for human and animal nutrition.

 

As our next Sr. Facilities Technician or Sr. Facilities Specialist, you will serve our Pilot Plant site in Belmont and our R&D facility in South San Francisco as needed. Reporting to the Pilot Plant Manager, you will focus on the operational aspects of the sites, including repairs, maintenance, coordination with vendors, inventory management, and execution of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) initiatives in line with company policies and standards. The position level may be adjusted corresponding to the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Engage in hands-on work and execute projects or initiatives with focus on preventive measures instead of reactive solutions
  • Operate forklift, lift jacks, pallet jacks, and floor lift equipment (training provided)
  • Use hand and power tools to service equipment and facilities
  • Identify, coordinate and oversee third-party contractors and vendors as needed
  • Monitor status of critical equipment and respond to alarm notifications. Serve as a primary contact for facilities emergencies
  • Occasionally perform deliveries between South San Francisco and Belmont facilities
  • Manage shipping and receiving for inbound and outbound shipments
  • Plan daily schedule for facilities in advance
  • Perform daily walk-throughs and support all facility areas (labs, utility areas, and offices).
  • Conduct routine and preventative maintenance of utility systems and specific equipment (e.g. air compressors, vacuums, chillers, RODI water system, boilers and steam systems, biochemistry analyzers, lyophilizers, ultra-low temperature freezers, incubators, shakers, cryogenic storage dewars, etc…).
  • Familiarity with best practices for plumbing/piping/wiring repairs needed to service equipment.
  • Ensure optimal functioning of building systems (e.g HVAC and fire/life safety equipment) with property management
  • Ensure proper connection and storage of building gas supplies and compressed gas cylinders
  • Schedule annual testing and certifications for biosafety cabinets and chemical hoods
  • Schedule annual calibrations for pipettes and benchtop and floor scales
  • Conduct inventory management of lab consumables, ensuring appropriate stock levels
  • Provide EHS support as directed - including assistance with safety inspections and implementation of EHS initiatives
  • Maintain accurate chemical and equipment inventories
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of laboratory chemicals
  • Manage chemical waste storage and disposal
  • Additional duties as determined by business needs

 

Additional responsibilities for Specialist level:

  • Utilize information from equipment manufacturer and service vendors (manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, operating and maintenance procedures, etc…) to develop a detailed maintenance program for utilities and facilities equipment and systems
  • Lead equipment installations - including connecting power, gas, steam, air, and water supplies.
  • Participate in the planning of new facilities and modification of existing sites to accommodate business needs. Coordinate with functional area leads and external vendors as needed.
  • Troubleshoot utility and equipment issues to determine root cause of issues. Perform minor repairs and develop temporary work-around solutions to minimize impact on operational activities
  • Proactively conduct assessment of site capabilities and equipment requirements to develop design options, resources, and timelines requirements for supported activities.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of high school/GED, supplemented with course work and/or certifications.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in general building maintenance within a lab setting, pilot plant or similar
