Director of Sustainability
This position will report to the Vice President, Marketing & Design
Location: Buena Park (Hybrid)
Travel: 10% and/or as needed
FSLA Status: Exempt
Position Summary
This coworker works closely with the Chief Marketing, Design & Sustainability Officer to develop, plan, and implement internal and external sustainability strategies and marketing programs. You will be responsible for training, recruiting and process leadership for the function as well as ESG reporting and scorecards for corporate sustainability performance. You will have both an internal focus (50%) and an external focus (50%.). For the external focus, you will help us access the market for sustainable packaging and qualify/select best in class sustainable packaging solutions that meet the needs of the customer. This is a customer facing role.
What You'll be Responsible For
- Works closely with the CMDSO to develop & implement sustainability strategies and scorecards for OPS businesses. Sustainability strategy development includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Lead the development and use of LCA tools at OPS
- Plan and develop a compelling sustainable packaging customer conferences
- Plan and implement company zero waste goals & other ESG targets including measures to improve Ecovadis and CDP scores/
- Assesses and analyzes company policies and processes to identify areas in and processes to which improvements can be made in accordance with the organizations commitment to sustainability.
- Brainstorms and identifies creative ways in which the company can balance business obligations with the goal of respecting, supporting, and improving the local and global environments.
- Proposes and implements strategies to address various environmental concerns including energy use, conservation, reduction of pollution, recycling, building and facility design, and general education on sustainability.
- Drafts and implements sustainable organizational policies that address environmental concerns.
- Evaluates efficacy of sustainability programs; recommends and implements improvements as necessary.
- Conducts research to identify environmental and sustainability concerns, interests, and issues.
- Assess sustainable packaging solutions in the market and qualify a best in breed stable of sustainable packaging solutions
- Create compelling marketing content for sustainable packaging offerings
- Train the salesforce on sustainable packaging formats and methods
- Develop sustainability marketing content for internal and external use.
- Identify team needs with regards to process, tools, documentation, asset management, etc
- Develop sustainability training programs where necessary to ensure OPS co-workers have the proper training to deliver world class design services
- Provides recommendations to strategically enhance performance and business opportunities using sustainable design.
- Maintains and protects organizational culture, values and reputation in the market and with all co-workers, customers, suppliers, and partners.
- Performs other duties and/ or responsibilities as assigned.
What We're Looking For
Education and Experience:

- Bachelor’s (4-year) degree required; Masters preferred
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive sustainability experience
- LCA expertise
- Experience with ESG reporting including CDP & Ec
