Estimator Assistant / Estimator in Training
Location: Kniesel's Collision - Rancho Cordova, 2459 Mercantile Dr., Rancho Cordova, CA 95742
Position Summary
The Estimator Assistant / Estimator in Training is an entry-level development role designed for individuals seeking a long-term career in collision repair estimating. This position works closely with experienced estimators and production staff to learn vehicle damage assessment, repair planning, insurance communication, and the estimating process while supporting daily shop operations.
The Estimator Assistant serves as a key support resource to the estimating team by assisting with vehicle inspections, documentation, customer communication, scheduling, and administrative functions. This role helps ensure customers receive timely updates and exceptional service throughout the repair process while developing the technical knowledge and skills necessary to become a Collision Repair Estimator.
Success in this position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, organizational ability, and a desire to learn the technical and customer service aspects of collision repair. This position offers a structured path toward advancement into a Collision Repair Estimator role.
Key Responsibilities
Estimator Support & Training:
• Shadow experienced estimators to learn collision repair estimating procedures and best practices.
• Assist with vehicle inspections, damage documentation, and repair planning activities.
• Photograph vehicle damage and upload supporting documentation into estimating and management systems.
• Learn repair versus replace decision-making process and manufacturer repair procedures.
• Assist with supplement estimate preparation and insurance documentation.
• Support estimators with administrative and operational tasks throughout the repair process.
• Learn estimating software (CCC1) and Mitchell (Repair Center), insurance guidelines, and DRP requirements.
• Participate in ongoing training related to collision repair, vehicle technology, and estimating processes.
• Develop the skills necessary to prepare accurate repair estimates independently.
Customer Service & Administrative Support:
• Welcome customers professionally and assist with vehicle drop-offs and deliveries.
• Communicate repair status updates to customers as directed by the estimating team.
• Help guide customers through the repair process and answer general questions.
• Assist with obtaining repair authorizations and required documentation.
• Coordinate rental vehicle arrangements and insurance-related communications when needed.
• Maintain accurate customer and vehicle records in Nexsyis and related systems.
• Schedule estimates, customer appointments, and repair-related activities.
• Support payment collection and final paperwork completion.
• Assist in resolving customer concerns promptly and professionally.
• Maintain organized customer files and contribute to a clean, professional front-office environment. Qualifications• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Customer service experience preferred
• Automotive, collision repair, dealership, insurance, or service-industry experience is a plus (but not required).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to learn technical information and processes.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Familiarity with Nexsyis or estimating software is a plus.
• Valid driver's license and insurable driving record preferred.
• Ability to stand, walk, and inspect vehicles throughout the workday.
• Ability to lift and move items up to 20 pounds.
• Maintains a professional appearance and positive attitude.
