About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to support Australian-based projects, specializing in mining industry electrical systems. Working under the direction of Australia-based engineers, you’ll design and draft compliant electrical plans adhering to Australian standards (AS/NZS), ensuring safety, efficiency, and scalability for heavy industrial applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and draft detailed electrical drawings for mining and industrial projects, using AutoCAD, Revit, or MicroStation:
- Single Line Diagrams
- Block Diagrams
- Cable Schedules
- Schematics and Termination Diagrams
- Marshalling Diagrams & Layouts
- DB Circuit Schedules & Layouts
- Switchboard arrangements
- Earthing arrangements
- Perform calculations per Australian standards:
- Load calculations
- Cable sizing
- Fault studies and protection
- Lighting
- Lightning
- Ensure compliance with AS/NZS 3000 (Wiring Rules), IEC, and site-specific regulations.
- Collaborate with Australian engineers to translate design requirements into technical drawings.
- Adapt designs for mining infrastructure (power distribution, HV/LV systems, process control).
- Review and revise plans based on feedback, site audits, or regulatory updates.
- Document all designs and maintain version control for engineering reviews.
Requirements
- 5+ years of electrical design experience, with exposure to Australian standards (AS/NZS).
- Mining or heavy industrial design background (preferred).
- Proficiency in CAD tools (AutoCAD Electrical, Revit MEP).
- Proficiency in engineering software (ETAP, SKM).
- Strong knowledge of Australian electrical codes, earthing systems, and hazardous area classifications (AS/NZS 60079).
- Ability to work autonomously under Australian engineer direction with minimal supervision.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Experience with mining power systems (substations, conveyors, crushing and screening, pumping systems).
- Familiarity with functional safety standards (AS 4024.1, IEC 61508).
- Exposure to Australian utility/energy sector projects.
