The Southwest Division (SWD) of Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) has an outstanding opportunity for a staff level engineer with specific experience in weapons design and development to join our team in the Concept Development Group (CDG). ARA’s CDG is in Albuquerque, NM, Niceville, FL, and Rapid City, SD and is a recognized leader in weapons development, high fidelity shock response and survivability modeling, and penetration mechanics. ARA’s CDG is at the forefront of providing solutions to challenging and nationally important weapons related problems. ARA’s CDG is currently working multiple technologically challenging efforts, requiring an individual who is capable of immediate contributions. The successful applicant will be responsible for evaluating complex customer problems and then devising and executing a solution.
The successful Mechanical Engineer candidate will have the opportunity to interface directly with high-level government clients and will have the responsibility to communicate the results of his or her work to customers. This individual will work closely with other analysts, engineers, and program managers in a highly collaborative environment. The successful candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information, including US citizenship.
Responsibilities:
- Perform engineering analyses and prepare supporting documentation detailing technical results
- Develop and execute strategies for solving complex and nationally important problems
- Create technical drawings, manufacturing schematics, and 2D and 3D digital models of mechanical equipment designs using SOLIDWORKS
- Capture digital system performance from engineering CAD and modeling tools to implement all-digital design and validation philosophy
- Conduct face-to-face meetings and prepare inputs for technical and cost proposals
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or related
- Specific experience with Model-Based Definition to generate all required manufacturing information in a 3D CAD model
- 3-5 years of experience in mechanical design using 3D modeling tools
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team of peers
- Demonstrated team leadership
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
- US Citizenship
- Active Secret Security Clearance or higher
Desired Qualifications
- Top Secret (or equivalent) clearance in the last 5 years
- Experience developing cost and technical proposals
- Specific DoD Weapons Development Experience
- At least one Model Based Engineering (or equivalent) course
