About the Department
 

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has 136 clinical providers, providing care at the main hospital in Hyde Park and seven off site locations. We have more than 68,000 outpatient visits, 28,000 ultrasound visits, 2,800 deliveries, and 3,300 surgeries per year. Teaching, research, and the highest quality clinical care are top priorities for the Department. The residency and fellowship programs are highly ranked and have a history of training leaders in healthcare. The Department also has a significant research enterprise, engaging in population health studies, as well as research conducted in wet laboratories on tumor biology, fibroid research, and hypertensive diseases in pregnancy. Additionally, the Section of Family Planning has established a unique research center, CI3, which focuses on reproductive policy and innovations in sexual and reproductive health. The department was ranked #16 on the 2022-2023 U.S. News & World Report.

The job leads and provides expertise to the development of programs for scientific research facilities. Uses considerable on-the-job experience to ensure compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies. Works independently to write articles, reports and manuscripts, and presents research findings at meetings and/or conferences.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates on new and ongoing research projects with a focus on, but not limited to, the role of methylation in cancer.

• Identify metabolic determinants of ovarian cancer metastasis.

• Using 3D organotypic and mouse models, elucidate the complex interactions between fibroblasts and cancer cells.

• Using 'omics' methods to identify the complex communication between stromal and cancer cells within the tumor microenvironment.

• Support and advice on the development of inhibitors towards IND-enabling studies.

• Identify new areas of therapeutic intervention of ovarian cancer metastasis or patients.

• Collection, manipulation, and analysis of experimental datasets.

• Implements cutting-edge technology (i.e., spatial transcriptomics and proteomics) in the laboratory.

• In addition to independent and collaborative experimental efforts, the Staff Scientist contributes to writing, proofreading, and fact-checking papers and presentations.

• Contributing to the writing of study protocols, including study design, clinical/ consent forms, schema, study flyers and amendments. Preparation of consent and study materials. Reporting on study enrollment in human subject research in accordance with NIH guidelines.

• Manage collection, manipulation, and analysis of complex experimental datasets, including but not limited to clinical data, omics- data sets, longitudinal studies, and other types of quantitative or qualitative analyses as needed for research projects and goals.

• Ensures compliance with institutional, state and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates.

• Train new laboratory personnel and postdoctoral scientists. Contributes to facilitating and promoting a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information.

• Reviews laboratory protocols and training on new techniques.

• Leads the contributions to scientific writing including protocols (IRB), publications, and grants (both federal and non-federal).

• Reviews laboratory protocols and training on new techniques.

• Manage complex data sets for research.

• Leads the contributions to scientific writing and publications, including protocols and grants.

• Trains new lab personnel.

• Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a PhD in related field.
