Position Overview

This position serves as a Job Classification Manager for assigned areas of the Department of Corrections. The individual will serve as an expert on job classification and organizational structures. The person will work closely with the agency staff in Labor Relations, Union Representatives, Legal Services, Executive and Management staff, and Central Management Services and shall create a sound, professional working relationship with the same. The position works in a strong team environment alongside other Human Resources Managers. We are looking for an energetic candidate looking to be an integral part of the Human Resources team. Essential Functions

  • Serves as a Manager of the Classification Unit directing, managing, and coordinating the Classification Program for assigned areas.
  • Serves as liaison and Classification expert to personnel field staff and management. 
  • Serves as full line supervisor.
  • Performs position reviews/studies.
  • Confers with other Public Safety Services Center managers on all Human Resources issues interfacing with the Classification Program.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in public, business administration, or human resources.
  • Requires three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a Human Resources Classifications program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in English, Creative Writing, Communications, Journalism, or related field.
  • Prefers at least five (5) years of experience managing a human resources office.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience developing position descriptions.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience developing comprehensive organizational structures.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of supervisory experience.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience developing and establishing human resources policies and procedures.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience interpreting bargaining unit contracts.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of working experience using a spreadsheet and word processing software.
  • Prefers experience multi-tasking and meeting multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Prefers excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
