About the role

We currently have a career opportunity for a Senior VMware Engineer to join our team. While our headquarters are located in St. Louis, MO, this roles is remote and can be located anywhere in the United States.

We are seeking a Senior VMware Performance and Automation Engineer to lead high-performance optimization and automation initiatives across virtualized environments managing enterprise-scale transaction systems. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in VMware vSphere and vOperations (vROps), possess strong analytical skills for diagnosing complex performance bottlenecks, and demonstrate proficient automation capabilities using Python for operational efficiency and continuous improvement.

  • Design, configure, and optimize VMware vSphere environments for high-performance application workloads handling large-scale transaction processing.
  • Utilize vRealize Operations (vROps) for proactive performance monitoring, capacity planning, and fine-tuning resource utilization across enterprise clusters.
  • Conduct performance benchmarking, root cause analysis, and workload characterization to ensure sub-millisecond response times for transaction-heavy applications.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and frameworks in Python to streamline provisioning, monitoring, and performance tuning processes.
  • Collaborate with application architects, SREs, and DevOps teams to define performance KPIs and implement scalable, resilient infrastructure solutions.
  • Implement, analyze, and optimize VMware DRS, HA policies, storage I/O control, and network I/O optimization for mission-critical workloads.
  • Integrate per-VM and per-application performance metrics into observability tools and dashboards to deliver end-to-end visibility.
  • Drive adoption of performance automation practices, including anomaly detection, auto-remediation, and predictive scaling models.
  • Prepare detailed performance reports and improvement recommendations for executive and technical stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational security and performance SLAs.

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in VMware vSphere administration, including ESXi, vCenter, and distributed resource management.
  • Proven experience in vRealize Operations (vROps) for end-to-end performance analysis and capacity planning.
  • Demonstrated success in transaction-heavy environments with measurable performance gains.
  • Strong proficiency in Python scripting for automation, data collection, performance testing, and infrastructure orchestration.
  • Experience with performance profiling tools, log analytics (e.g., Splunk, ELK), and infrastructure monitoring solutions.
  • Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or VMware vRealize Automation (vRA).
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
  • Good communication skills for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Understanding of ITIL processes, performance SLAs, and DevOps pipelines
  • VMware certifications (VCP, VCIX, or VCAP) are a plus.
