Manager, Strategic Partnership Development

The Strategic Investments Group (SIG) is a diverse, performance-driven and highly collaborative team whose mission is to expand the capabilities and profitability of Capital One’s Commercial Bank. The team connects our different lending businesses with institutional capital via structured partnerships and investments that keep Capital One on the leading edge of Commercial lending and increase our capacity to serve our Commercial clients’ evolving needs. Since 2016, the SIG team has created numerous partnerships and risk transfer programs (joint ventures, co-lending arrangements, insurance, and equity investments) that have supported over $10B in Capital One assets, while also supporting opportunistic balance sheet transactions.

Summary:

As a Junior Developer on  the Strategic Partnership Development team, you will join a team of experienced professionals and aid them in creating new strategic partnerships and programs for the Commercial Bank. In this role, you will be responsible for activities across three primary functions: Investor Relations, Partnership Structuring, and Project Management and Implementation. You will help design and craft the supporting materials for the internal business case, transaction design and structuring, and investor marketing process. Once an investor is identified, you will work with all internal and external stakeholders in the final design, approval and implementation of a new program. Responsibilities:

  • Participate in discussions with business segment leaders, heads of underwriting and credit officers to identify product needs and potential investors

  • Create diligence materials and presentations to pitch external investors and raise capital

  • Help conduct diligence of external investors

  • Track investor trends and market developments

  • Leverage existing experience and network to support select development workstreams and participate in liaising with relevant technical experts in coordination with Senior SIG Developers

  • Assist in the structuring of the end-to-end program across all disciplines such as tax, legal, regulatory, credit, accounting, operations, and capital allocation

  • Lead the data gathering and drafting of responses to investor due-diligence requests

  • Prepare high-visibility presentations and models relating to new programs with Senior SIG Developers

  • Aid Senior SIG developers and legal team in the structuring and negotiation of legal agreements with institutional investors with Senior SIG Developers and SIG Legal Team

  • Design the infrastructure for new programs, including partnership operations

  • Own and manage comprehensive project plans for end-to-end program build

  • Support rollout of new partnerships with deal team training and sponsor/customer marketing materials

  • Support the execution and operational management of the initial transactions for new programs and ensure a successful hand off to SIG Program Management team for full program operations

Ideal Candidate: 

  • Proven ability to create compelling, visually influential, and concise presentations

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to keep multiple projects and client engagements active at once

  • Adept in navigating across a large organization, working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, maintaining transaction-level momentum, and following up on outstanding items

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and ability to readily adapt to changing workstreams

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and influence decision makers

  • Working familiarity with fund structures and private debt markets across multiple asset classes

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Military Experience

  • At least 2 years of experience in leveraged finance, capital markets, investment banking, commercial banking, management consulting, or corporate development

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
