Federal Work Study Student Hitchcock Field and Fork Pantry Student Assistant 

Classification Minimum Requirements:

This position is open to all students who are eligible for FWS and to work on campus in Gainesville. Students must maintain a minimum of a 2.5 GPA and be enrolled for at least six credit hours a semester. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis for a maximum of 10 hours per week. 

Must be able to start May 2025. Can continue beyond Summer 2025 if available. 

Must be able to work office hours physically in the Hitchcock Field & Fork Pantry. 

Must be able to attend any required training and pantry staff meetings. 

Job Description:

The Hitchcock Field & Fork Pantry is dedicated to building a more food-secure campus for the UF community. Responsible for providing free access to nutritious food for any campus member, the Pantry is at the forefront of meeting campus members’ basic food needs. Those applying will need to feel comfortable engaging with students, staff, or faculty guests in a confidential and respectful manner. 

Primary responsibilities will include the following: 

· Provide superior customer service to pantry guests. 

· Field sensitive questions related to pantry shopping eligibility, food category limits, community resources, and media requests. 

· Ensure pantry sales floor is stocked, clean, and organized according to operating procedures. 

· Assist with product prep and processing such as sorting, stocking, repackaging bulk items and fresh produce, and organizing food donations. 

· Assist in providing training support for volunteers. 

· Assist with other Field & Fork Pantry projects and programs as needed. 

Expected Salary:

$13.00/Hr. 

Required Qualifications:

Time Commitment: 

· Up to 10 hours per week. 

· Required Summer 2025 start date May 1, 2025 

· Attend onboarding and training upon employment as required 

General Expectations: 

Student staff are expected to be responsible, punctual, organized, and possess excellent communicators. Dress in pantry is casual and will be required to wear a Pantry apron for identification and closed toe shoes. Students must work at Pantry location (564 Newell Rd Gainesville FL). 

Preferred:
  • Excellent verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to work on a team and connect with others easily/outgoing. 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills 
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality  
  • Strong interest in food security, social services, food access, and/or food systems.
