How do we do this? With our people. They break through limitations and expectations – not once in a career, but every day. They help move our company, and the world, forward.
At Corning, there are endless possibilities for making an impact. You can help connect the unconnected, drive the future of automobiles, transform at-home entertainment, and ensure the delivery of lifesaving medicines. And so much more.
Come break through with us.
Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
The Mechanical Engineer will design, analyze, and optimize mechanical components and systems used in solar energy products production. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering, CAD design, and manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems for solar energy products, including solar panels, mounting structures, trackers, and balance of system (BOS) components.
- Perform engineering analysis and simulations to validate design concepts, optimize performance, and ensure compliance with technical specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and quality assurance, to translate design requirements into manufacturable products.
- Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA) to create detailed 3D models, drawings, and specifications for mechanical parts and assemblies.
- Generate engineering documentation, including bill of materials (BOM), design documentation, test plans, and technical reports, to support product development and manufacturing processes.
- Provide technical support to manufacturing teams, resolving design-related issues, implementing process improvements, and optimizing production workflows.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in mechanical engineering, participating in professional development activities and knowledge-sharing sessions.
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering field
- 7+ years of manufacturing experience
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials selection, and fabrication techniques used in producing mechanical components and systems.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards and codes applicable to mechanical design, such as ASME, ANSI, and ISO.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Experiences/Education - Desired
- Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, with experience in 3D modeling, drafting, and simulation.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including statics, dynamics, materials science, and thermodynamics.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and other engineering analysis tools is desirable.
