About the role

The Highlights: In accordance with the mission of the Department of Athletics, assist in administering the progress and success of the intercollegiate men’s soccer program within the guidelines of the NCAA, the BIG EAST Conference, and DePaul University. This includes all pre-season, in-season, and post-season activities necessary to the development of a regionally-competitive team.


What You'll Do:

  • Assist in coordinating the evaluation, recruitment, preparation and development of all student-athletes.  Such evaluation and recruitment activities may include, but are not limited to identifying, contacting, and recruiting prospective student-athletes by phone, mail, and other forms of correspondence; traveling to various locations throughout Chicago and across the country to meet and evaluate in person prospective student-athletes; and operating camps and clinics.  Activities to prepare and develop student-athletes may include, but are not limited to planning practice sessions, video analysis of performance, providing feedback, and encouraging positive performance.  
  • Knowledge of and adherence to NCAA, conference and university rules, policies and procedures.  Attend and participate in regular (i.e., monthly) compliance education sessions.  Support the head coach in the areas of training, evaluating, supervising and mentoring assistant coaches and support staff.  Promote and support an inclusive team environment.  
  • Assist in monitoring and encouraging the scholastic progress of student-athletes in conjunction with the Athletic Academic Advising (AAA) Office, so as to promote their academic success and subsequent graduation. 
  • Establish and maintain quality relationships with alumni and support organizations (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), “D” Club Athletics Alumni Association, various student organizations, etc.) of DePaul University. Serve as the program's liaison for promotional activities. Be a visible an active participant in the campus and Chicago community by attending fundraising, marketing, media, and student/campus events when possible. 
  • Assist in the development of the annual traditional and non-traditional competition schedule under the direction of the Men's Soccer Head Coach and Men's Soccer Sport Administrator, in conjunction with NCAA regulations.  
  • Assist with adherence to the program’s budget, in conjunction with the Athletic Business Office.  Work with Business Office on travel arrangements, equipment purchases, and timely submission of expense reports. 
  • Assist Men's Soccer Head Coach in supervision of Volunteer Instructional Assistants, camp workers, and student managers.
  • Performing tasks within the scope of the department expense budget.

 

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 3-5 years coaching experience, preferably at the NCAA Division I level.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to manage the physical demands of team practice and competition, including sitting, standing, and physical activity for extended periods of time, often in the elements/various weather conditions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, current video applications, and current recruiting software.
  • Demonstrated experience in working in a diverse urban and/or intercollegiate athletics environment.
  • Dedication to serving the department, the University and the student-athletes with the highest level of leadership, initiative and integrity.
  • Position requires working evening, weekend, and University holiday hours, including attending/traveling to all men's soccer practices, home games, and away games.
  • Extended travel may be required for competitions and recruiting.
