Position Overview

As the Deputy Chief of Special Units in Parole, you will be part of our Parole team that supervises over 24,000 parolees in Illinois. This position is unique due to the specific populations of Sex Offenders, Apprehension Unit, Interstate Compact, Intelligence Agents, and Extraditions of Fugitives, under your supervision. Each day brings specific challenges to each of the specific populations we serve. It is rewarding to help with the successful reentry of these populations while obtaining public safety. You can make positive changes in community corrections while working with a highly skilled Parole management team, local law enforcement officials (state and federal), and collaborating with vendors, while using evidence-based practices. Essential Functions

1. Serves as Deputy Chief of Specialized Units.
2. Serves as full-line supervisor.
3. Coordinates, controls, and executes through supervision of subordinate staff individual and large-scale compliance checks on parolees throughout the state.
4. Serves as an Agency spokesperson, in the absence of the Chief of Parole.
5. Participates in conducting public relations activities in the community representing the Chief of Parole and Agency Director.
6. Serves as principal policy administrator, developing and implementing policies and procedures affecting the Specialized Units for the Parole Division.
7. Participates in budget planning for the Parole Division Specialized Unit.
8. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college with course work in law enforcement, criminology, penology, or a related field.
2. Requires four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a law enforcement public or private organization, a correctional facility, or related field.
3. Requires three (3) years supervisory experience in a law enforcement public or private organization, a correctional facility, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Prefers at least three (3) years of experience receiving Intelligence from a law enforcement entity and acting on the Intelligence received.
2. Prefers at least three (3) years of experience organizing compliance checks.
3. Prefers at least three (3) years of experience addressing subpoenas.
4. Prefers at least three (3) years of experience working with fugitives in apprehension.
5. Prefers at least (1) year of experience developing and implementing policy for a law enforcement entity.
6. Prefers knowledge of the Interstate Compact Offender Computer Tracking System (ICOTS).
7. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience in addressing extraditions.
8. Prefers at least one (1) year experience working with Sex Offenders.
9. Prefers at least three (3) years of experience working with confidential cases.
10. Prefers at least three (3) years of experience working with various law enforcement agencies.

Employment Conditions

1. Requires possession of a Firearm Ownership Identification Card.
2. Requires ability to carry a firearm.
3. Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
4. Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
