Join the Raytheon legal team as a Director and Senior Counsel, Functional with the opportunity to be at the forefront of solving the industry’s most challenging and complex problems.   The Director position is integral in ensuring that the functional leaders meet their business and financial objectives through timely and strategic legal advice.  The Director will report to the Director, Lead Functional and Governance Counsel and will provide legal support to multiple senior functional leaders, which may include the following areas: Quality and Mission Assurance, Product Safety, Operations, Environmental Health & Safety, Digital Technology, Facilities, Security, Real Estate, and Communications. 

What You Will Do

  • Collaborate with functional and business leaders to understand their needs and goals, near and long term, and provide the necessary legal support to enable successful execution of said goals
  • Provide direct legal support to several of Raytheon’s functional organizations, including Quality and Mission Assurance, Product Safety, Operations, Environmental Health & Safety, Security, Digital Technology, Facilities, Security, Real Estate, Communications, and other functions and major initiatives
  • Advise on relevant U.S. and foreign laws, as applicable to each function, including staying on top of evolving law for growth areas (ex. artificial intelligence)
  • Collaborate with RTX, Collins Aerospace and Pratt & Whitney functional leaders to ensure alignment and share best practices
  • Present on legal topics for various purposes and audiences (e.g., presenting legal matters to senior business or Legal team leadership, training business or legal personnel)
  • Manage outside counsel and the general counsel budget for matters in your purview
  • Some domestic and international travel (10-20%)
  • Possible Work Locations: MA – Andover, VA - Arlington or AZ - Tucson

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires 12+ years of legal experience as a practicing attorney, including 5+ years of legal experience in a matrixed corporate organization in the following industries: aerospace and defense, manufacturing, telecommunications, energy or pharmaceuticals
  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited U.S. law school
  • Currently admitted and in good standing with at least one U.S. State bar, and eligible to represent Raytheon as an in-house legal counsel in the job location

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Active security clearance, or ability to obtain a clearance
  • Significant experience in reviewing, drafting, negotiating, and advising on a wide variety of government or commercial agreements, including international transactions
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills and ability to communicate complex matters succinctly, and effectively; demonstrated leadership skills, sound judgment, and attention to detail
  • Well-organized, with strong project management skills and the ability to prioritize and manage a high-volume workload and drive issues to timely conclusions
  • Ability to interact effectively and collaboratively in a team environment with multiple levels of organization and foster positive working relationships with peers, internal clients and external customers
