As Federal and Military technology continues to get more complex, engagement at the higher echelons of Department of Defense (DOD) programs is necessary to continue consistent growth. To meet and exceed those expectations, a strategic and technical Program Manager is required. This is a sales position. The Strategic Program Manager (SPM) will provide an exceptionally high level of support in both sales and technical guidance to the DOD on behalf of OTTO Engineering.
The SPM is an experienced sales professional with product experience who not only understands the products but also thoroughly understands the DOD customers and the environments in which they operate. The SPM is a member of the Defense Strategies Group (DSG) with the responsibility to achieve business sales goals. Armed with a high level of knowledge regarding OTTO Engineering radio accessories, the SPM will respond to and support customers, prospect for new opportunities, support the development and response to all program level RFI’s, RFP’s and S&T development opportunities by providing solutions to customers. The combination of these efforts will differentiate OTTO from the competition and set the highest standards in the two-way radio accessories market.
Specifically, the Strategic Program Manager will:
Increase OTTO’s visibility and sales with key contacts for US Government Program Offices and other supporting accounts through regular visits, phone contacts, e-mail, trade shows and other channels.
- Develop and drive closure of sales opportunities for assigned accounts
- Communicate effectively with customers to educate them on OTTO products to build OTTO’s business and brand within the DOD market
- Achieve and/or exceed bookings and sales goals for the assigned accounts
- Collaborate with internal team members regularly to identify new opportunities, align requirements, and support other business development managers in the execution of all contracts
- Assist the DSG team to increase the sales pipeline, generate reports and quotes, and identify optimal funding vehicles
- Serve as the primary contact for customer‐focused requests, pre-sales and post-sales support, and provide the first level of technical support to customers
- Deliver regular feedback to engineering and sales teams to enhance existing products and lead in the development of new projects to enhance the company portfolio
- Take ownership for account success and present growth strategy to the Sales Manager and the Director of Sales
- Support customer requests for information and requests for quotes, and provide materials to fulfill capability gaps and meet product needs
- Define requirements and business cases for new product opportunities including features, benefits, specifications, cost targets, and forecasts
- Secure commitment for the execution of new product initiatives and/or line extensions
- Plan travel around regular strategic customer visits, shows and industry events to maintain and ensure OTTO brand is at the forefront of customer minds when communication accessories are needed
- Collaborate with Marketing to plan and attend trade shows and drive customer meetings during these events
- Manage CRM and other business systems for all activities
- Actively log sales opportunities, customer visits and reporting on all sales activity
- Assists with other related duties as required or assigned
What you’ll need to bring to the table:
- 10+ years of direct government sales experience
- Bachelor’s degree highly preferred, but equivalent prior sales & military experience may be substituted
- Successfully balance travel and workload. Must be effective at remote communication with personnel at OTTO HQ
- Strong strategic and analytical skills required to analyze customer problems and develop creative and effective solutions
- Ability to write technical responses and organize lengthy bid proposals to ensure successful submission to government contracting offices
- General knowledge of computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to travel for customer meetings and tradeshows -- no less than 30% travel
- Ability to focus on details, execute strategies, be flexible and decisive, and build strong working relationships with peers and customers
