The Financial Accounting unit of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco is looking for a highly motivated and experienced accounting professional to join their team. This position provides accounting, analytical and project support for Expense Accounting to support the accurate and timely recording of the payment process. Demonstrates general knowledge of financial accounting and reporting, analyzing data, interpreting accounting standards, and coordinating projects across a broad range of business functions. Assist in the oversight over discretionary spending, recording tenant leasing transactions and employee non-travel reimbursements.  Assist in the compliance with the Bank's Discretionary and Expense Policies, the Federal Reserve Administrative Manual (FRAM) and the Financial Accounting Manual (FAM).

What you’ll do:

  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual journal entries and assist in activities associated with the month end, quarter end, and year end closing processes.

  • Review non-travel expense reimbursement requests for accuracy and compliance with Bank discretionary expenditure policies.

  • Review invoice and other payment requests for discretionary expenditure policy compliance, expense allocation and completeness of documentation.

  • Monitor and review Bank event-related expenditures to ensure compliance with Bank and Federal Reserve System discretionary expenditure policies.

  • Assist in the education of customers on discretionary expenditure policies and respond to customer inquiries in a timely manner.

  • Prepare general ledger journal entries and account reconciliations.

  • Maintain current accounting documentation in accordance with Bank and Federal Reserve System policies and procedures.

  • Work with department management and peers to enhance the effectiveness, accuracy, and efficiency of business processes.

  • Assist with documentation requests and inquiries driven by internal audit, Board of Governors and COSO compliance reviews.

  • Participates in process and resolution of routine issues involving Expense Accounting.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

  • This position requires maintaining knowledge in multiple accounting applications including SAP Ariba and Workday Financials.

Required Experience + Traits:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field

  • 2+ years of related experience

  • Demonstrate an understanding of general ledger accounting..

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy..

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint)

  • Proficient in Adobe Acrobat; can support a paperless/digital work environment.

  • Work effectively under pressure with strong time management skills.

  • Desire to streamline tasks through process improvement and automation.

  • Self-starter with a high degree of initiative and sound judgment; can propose recommendations for solutions and resolve issues with minimal guidance or supervision.

  • Work under general supervision; ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to succeed in a remote working environment.
