Overview
The Senior Project Accountant role is a position that will fill a critical component in our Finance & Accounting team. This hands-on position provides opportunities to further develop the depth and breadth of your accounting and operational skills. This position will work with the project accounting team, providing hands-on input and execution of both operational and technical accounting. The candidate will also work cross-functionally with internal groups including Asset Management and O&M. Opportunities to take on additional responsibilities within the accounting department are available given available time and success in the technical role.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Works with various operations personnel, to track margins on all active projects
- Work closely with the operational team to provide forecast and estimates for project cash flow and other information requested (NOTE: the project budget is prepared by the operational team)
- Perform ongoing Forecast vs. Actual cost analysis of project data to ensure that actual and estimated costs are appropriately recorded
- Investigate large discrepancies from our expectations
- Monitor inflows (to ensure all revenue is captured) and outflows (to ensure any reimbursable items are billed back to the customer)
- Review coding on open POs and paid invoices to ensure margins are being tracked correctly
- Monthly project level allocation for large overhead costs (i.e. labor allocation, vegetation costs, etc)
- Assists in financial activities of organization; prepares reports to management on ad hoc basis
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and year-end journal entries, accruals and other financial activities
- Maintain schedules and assist with management reporting requests
- Track and record inventory transfers (equipment purchased and stored at a warehouse until allocated/shipped to a solar site)
- Reviews all O&M and Corporate (CCR) accounts receivables and accounts payables ensuring accurate and timely processing
- Review open POs and work with the operations team to close out stale POs
- Review quarterly invoicing to customer (accrued on a monthly basis), including supporting documentation, as requested by customer
- Assist with balance sheet/income statement quarterly analytics (and high level monthly analytics)
- Assist in annual audit
- Work with corporate tax compliance to ensure that taxes are properly accounted for each project
Qualifications
- BS in Accounting/Finance desired
- Public accounting experience is a plus
- 3-5 years of experience in accounting is required
- Previous experience in an accountant or audit role in the construction or maintenance is highly preferable
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong accounting knowledge
- Good written and verbal communication skills

- Comfortable working in hybrid environment (in office several days a week and can be remote several days) and meeting with individuals and groups over Zoom (some groups/people work out of different offices and different time zones)
Location: This position will be based in Durham, NC. Must be able to go into the Durham office 3x week on a hybrid schedule
