Monitors all cancer cases diagnosed and/or treated at Meritus Medical Center for optimal cancer program planning and allocation of hospital resources. Maintains quality control and efficiency of the Tumor Registry in accordance with the American College of Surgeons Standards, retrieves and analyzes registry data, disseminates this data for research investigation, prepares abstracts with accuracy and proper staging for the management and accessibility of statisical information. Assures compliance of the registry requirements and submission to the Maryland Cancer Registry and the National Cancer Data Base. Provides administrative and programmatic support for the Cancer Committee and the cancer program standards.
Education – Associates Degree in any Allied Health field; completion of approved courses in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and disease processes required.
Experience – Two years experience in Medical Records or Allied Health
Licensure/Certification – Certified Tumor Registrar or Registered Health Information Technician required, or the ability to successfully complete certification testing within two (2) testings after meeting the eligibility requirements
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities – Excellent knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Ability to analyze detailed medical records data for collection according to specific guidelines. Ability to concentrate amid distractions and for long periods of time. Good communication skills with Medical Staff and ancillary departments.
