This position reports to the General Supervisor, Phosphoric Acid and has approximately 10 direct reports.
This position is located in Aurora, North Carolina, USA and is not available for remote work.
What you will do:
The Shift Supervisor is responsible for guiding the safe implementation of the daily duties of the Phosphoric Acid department at Nutrien in Aurora with a focus on daily production. The Shift Supervisor plans, directs, coordinates, and implements daily activities based on the published schedule or directive. The supervisor will monitor the progress of daily activities; deal with any identified obstacles that limit the productivity of the team, conduct site visits to ensure that all assigned work is performed in a safe manner. The supervisor will work closely with the employees and ensure that the company’s business targets and safety, health & environmental policies are met.
Responsibilities:
- Ability to operate all plant equipment to ensure optimum production.
- Conducts team meetings, assists safety team with inspections and getting problems solved.
- Control operation of the evaporators to control storage and handling of product and satisfying the needs of the other departments as a continuous activity.
- Ensures that employee has proper safety equipment, and they use it properly. Follow-up on safety problems to help reduce first aid cases and recordable cases.
- Communicates with employees about company goals, policies, and procedures.
- Monitors and evaluates all environmental controls and records to ensure there are no letters of non-compliance. Constantly updating employee of changes in the SOPs on environmental issues. All environmental incidents receive action and follow-up.
- Encourages and makes arrangements for each employee to attend all available trainings.
- Oversees cross-training to achieve each employee’s development.
- Evaluates each employee by way of an annual performance appraisal.
- Prepares work orders for repairs and maintenance of equipment.
- Suggests improvements in process or methods and review proposed capital investments utilizing knowledge and experience to ensure improvements.
- Responsible for maximizing production of department at or below budgeted cost.
What you will bring:
- Incumbent must meet all of the requirements on the supervisory promotion checklist; have at least 5 years’ experience at this site, a minimum of competent rating on last performance appraisal and better-than-average attendance record.
- Must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the operations of the Solids department is essential.
- Knowledge and ability to inspect the entire plant for proper operation and for Safety and Environmental issues is required.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Incumbent should have a thorough knowledge of Phosphoric Acid and its related equipment.
- They should also have a detailed knowledge of the rail trackage and traffic flow.
- Also, knowledge of the OSHA Process Safety Management Regulation CFR 1910.110
